“Sorry, baby, but you made your choice. I never back down from a dare.” He smacks me once on the ass and I squeal again. “Your ass looks amazing in these jeans, by the way.”

Ethan

I set her down in front of the black SUV Nick drove tonight, with the one I drove parked right behind it. Three of my most intimidating men are standing next to my SUV in case of an emergency. I open the door to the backseat of our vehicle and gesture for her to get in. I’m not about to let her get away this time.

“You just manhandled me. I’m not going to climb into your vehicle and drive away with you.”

“Chloe.” I only need to look at Chloe to warn her. We talked about this.

Chloe steps closer to Olivia. “Olivia, I need to go with Nick and Ethan. Would you please consider coming with us?”

“What? No! Why would I do that? This man is telling me I belong to him, and he just carried me out here over his shoulder! Are you fucking crazy?” She throws her hands out to her sides, and I grin at her feisty protest. I like it.

“Liv, there’s an explanation for what’s going on between you and Ethan. Please just come with us,” Chloe pleads.

Olivia shakes her head with her hands on her hips. “No. Absolutely not, Chloe. I’m engaged. I can’t do this. I just want to go home.”

“Take her home,” I say, leaning against the SUV. Nick frowns and gives me a nod.

“Thank you.” She gets into the backseat with a sigh while Nick and Chloe climb into the front. I open the door and slide in next to Olivia just as she’s fastening her seatbelt. I can’t help but grin when her mouth drops open.

She shakes her head. “What are you doing?”

“The guys want to stay longer, so I need a ride. Surely you don’t have a problem sitting next to me for a few minutes?” She has no idea just how persistent I can be when I want something, or in this case, someone.

She purses her lips together and shakes her head. “Fine. Your presence is insignificant to me anyway.”

“You’re a terrible liar,” I say right next to her ear, to which she leans away from me and rolls her eyes.

We pull out of our parking spot and onto the street. She starts to get fidgety as we pass through a stoplight, and Nick shows no sign of slowing down. I tap Nick on the shoulder, and I give him a nod when we make eye contact in the rearview mirror.

She whips her head toward me. “What was that for?”

“Nothing for you to worry about.” She’ll soon know who I am and what I expect from those around me. I’m in control at all times. I’ll eventually show her that she can trust me and my instincts. “Just relax, Olivia.”

“Like hell, I will.” She sits forward in her seat, and her breathing quickens. I can sense the acceleration of her heart rate. I want nothing more than to take her in my arms and reassure her, but I know her feisty, independent side would have none of it right now.

“Nick, you’re going to miss my turn. Nick,” she says in a panic. His only response is to speed up. “Nick! You just passed my turn. What the hell are you doing?”

Chloe leans forward with her face in her hands as Nick apologizes with a sigh, “I’m sorry, Liv. This will all make sense once we explain.”

“Explain what? Chloe, say something! Where are we going?”

“I’m sorry, Liv. I didn’t want to do it this way,” Chloe says, her voice shaking.

“Do what in what way? You guys, come on. You’re scaring me.”

“There’s no reason to be scared. You’re perfectly safe with me,” I say, taking her hand in mine.

She twists in her seat, glaring at me as she yanks her hand back. “Where the hell are you taking me?”

“Not far. We’re going to a place called Pinewood. Don’t worry, Nick and Chloe live there too. I just want to talk.”

“Pinewood? Where is Pinewood? Chloe, what’s going on? What are you hiding from me?”

I don’t give Chloe an opportunity to answer. “It will all make sense once we get there and you give me a chance to explain.”

“You realize you’re kidnapping me right now, don’t you? You’ve taken me against my will.”
