Keeping things casual for our date, I put on the jeans he said my ass looked good in the other night and a red shirt that dips low. It shows just enough cleavage, but not too much. I pull my hair into a low ponytail, allowing a few stray curls to fall around my face. I’m taking one last look in the mirror when I hear a knock on the bedroom door.

“Come in.” The door opens, and my body warms when I see Ethan’s sexy smile.

“You look gorgeous,” he says with a grin. He takes my hand and pulls me to him for a kiss. Leaning back, he eyes my bare neck. “I like your hair pulled back like this.” He caresses the valley of my neck with his thumb. “You’re so beautiful.”

“Thank you. You look great too.” I lean into the touch of his hand. I can’t help myself from taking in every inch of his appearance. He’s casual in dark jeans with a white shirt which shows off the definition of his chest and biceps. He looks flawless, and he smells delicious. Though, he could show up in rags covered in dirt and still be sexy.

He clears his throat, his eyes roaming my body again. “Are you ready to go?”

“Yes. I’ve been looking forward to this all day,” I say, giving him my brightest smile.

It’s sweet how he holds my hand as we make our way down the stairs and out the front door to his car. He opens the door for me and holds my hand until I’m inside before closing the door. I instantly have a case of butterflies in my stomach as he gets inthe driver’s seat next to me. I feel like an excited high school girl on a first date when he takes my hand again as we pull out of the driveway.

When we get to the town square, we park in front of the restaurant Más Tequila. It sounds great already. People notice us together as soon as we arrive. I seem to be more accepted when I’m on the Alpha's arm. There are formal greetings, smiles, and respectful nods. A few welcome me and wish me a pleasant visit. I wonder if they suspect who I am to Ethan, but he seems unfazed by the reaction of anyone until we pass by the bar where a group of young men are drinking cocktails.

A good-looking guy in his early to mid-twenties greets Ethan with a nod and raise of his glass. “Alpha Sullivan, good to see you.”

“Hey, Austin. Enjoying a night out, huh?”

“Yeah,” Austin replies with a grin. “Looks like you’re about to have a good night too.” His eyes take a leisurely and not at all subtle tour up and down my body. He tilts his head toward his friend as he says, “Maybe the Alpha will give me a turn when he’s finished with her.”

Ethan

I release Olivia’s hand and walk forward to pin Austin against the bar with my body. “What the fuck did you just say?”

“I…uh,” Austin fumbles for words.

“Do I need to remind you who the fuck you’re dealing with?”

The other men at the bar watch on with caution, but they’re smart enough to stay out of my business. Austin’s jaw becomes tight and defiant. “No, sir.”

“Watch your mouth and keep your fucking eyes to yourself. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes, Alpha. My apologies,” Austin replies, never breaking eye contact, an obvious sign of disrespect. He fucking knows to look down and submit when being challenged by the Alpha.

“Submit,” I say through my gritted teeth. His belligerence persists as he stares at me. “I said fucking submit!” The entire restaurant goes silent at the sound of my roar. Knowing he has no easy way out of this, he finally averts his eyes, looking at the floor until I’m satisfied. My jaw clenches as I back away and the buzz in the restaurant resumes. “You can report to Lance’s office Monday morning. He’ll inform you of the consequences for your insubordination.”

I turn to see Olivia with her jaw practically lying on the floor. Fuck. I slide my arm around her waist, pulling her tight to my side. I’m making it loud and clear to Austin and everyone else that she belongs to me.

“Your table is ready, Alpha,” the hostess says, as if she’s witnessed nothing, just as she should. “Right this way, please.” I arranged for us to be seated at a table in a secluded area of the restaurant. The atmosphere is warm and inviting with dim lighting, but brightly colored décor. Not that any of that matters now because all I can see are Austin’s eyes all over my mate. We are seated and I immediately take her hand in mine, as our waitress arrives and takes our drink order.

My entire body is still ready for a fight. Reminding myself of the conversations Nick and I have had about the effects of the mate bond, I take a few deep breaths to calm myself. I’m waiting for her to scold me for my behavior, but instead, her other hand gently lands on mine.

“Ethan, are you okay?”

“I’ll be fine. I’m sorry you had to see that. Are you okay?” I say, seeing the concern on her face.

“I’m a little shaken, to be honest. Who was that guy?”

“A new member of my security team. I can’t believe the fucking balls on that guy. I’m his fucking Alpha, and I won’t tolerate anyone disrespecting you.”

“It’s not that big of a deal, Ethan. It’s not like he’s the first guy to check me out and say something stupid. Just let it go.”

That just pisses me off more. “He was raised in this environment. He knows better. There will be consequences to his actions here tonight.”

“Ethan, I’m not going to pretend to understand the dynamics of what happened back there, but are we going to let some guy who said a stupid thing take over our night?”

“No,” I say, looking into her green eyes with a sigh of relief that she’s taking this so well. “You’re right. I’m sorry.”
