This is not just a kiss. This is a claiming, and my body is all too happy to comply. My head spins as we pull away, panting and out of breath, as I’m drawn into the cool, blue depths of his eyes. He kisses me twice more. His lips are gentle this time as he caresses my cheeks with the soft pads of his thumbs.

He releases a low growl, and I grip his arms as his kiss still reverberates through my body. My eyes are heavy as he leans in, and the warmth of his breath and the softness of his lips brush my ear. “Are you okay?” he whispers, his voice low and husky. I release all the breath I’ve been holding, while my heart hammers in my chest.

“Yeah…I, uh…I need to go take a shower.”

“Mm. Now, there’s something to think about.” My breath catches in my chest as he raises my chin to kiss me again. He’s dangerously consuming, and I’m so easily lost in him. I step back until I’m at a distance where I can breathe and allow my brain cells to function.

“I’m going to go take that shower now,” I whisper and he nods, still holding my eyes captive. I take my time walking up the stairs, knowing he’s watching me leave.

“Something tells me you won’t be alone in your thoughts while you’re up there,” he says as I’m halfway up the stairs. I turn just enough to see his eyes roam the length of my body. Just thethought of Ethan being with me in the shower, even if it’s only in my mind, is enough to set my core on fire.

I take a few deep breaths to gather myself when I get to my room. As the warm water pours over me, I recount our conversation. My mind is telling me to be cautious, perhaps I should even be afraid of Alpha Ethan Sullivan, but my body won’t allow me to refuse him. His touch pulls me under his spell, and he’s got me in his hold.

Feeling refreshed after my shower, I’m happy knowing a day with Chloe will bring some much-needed normalcy. I dress in a cute, pale yellow mini dress and apply my makeup. Satisfied with my look, I head downstairs to see Ethan’s office door is open. His eyes meet mine as I enter the doorway.

Ethan

I’m immediately drawn from my work when she walks into my office. “Hey. Whoa, you look amazing.” I scan her body from head to toe and my chest tightens a little. “Maybe too amazing. This dress certainly shows a lot of leg. I like it, but I’m sure I won’t be the only one.”

“Ethan, I may be okay with you having security discreetly following me for my safety, but I am not okay with you deciding if my outfits are appropriate or not.”

I have to touch her. I take her hand, and pull her down to sit on my lap. I press my lips to hers while my hand roams up and down her silky thigh. “So soft and smooth.” I feel a growl building in my chest, and I deepen the kiss. “I don’t know how I feel about other guys checking you out today, because they will, you know.”

“You werewolves are so territorial,” she says while her fingers play in my hair. She’s only seen a fraction of how territorial Ireally am, especially when it comes to her. I bury my face in her neck, holding her tight, and delivering gentle kisses. A needy sigh escapes her chest, and I’m finding it difficult to let her leave me.

“Just so you know, the security guys will follow you to the square, but once you’re there, they’ll disappear, and you won’t even know they’re around.”

“Okay,” she says as the doorbell rings. “Chloe’s here.”

I lean in and move my lips gently over hers once more. I don’t want to let her go, but I reluctantly release my hold. “I’ll see you later this afternoon.”

“Bye, Ethan,” she says, standing to leave my office. She gives me one last glance and grins at me on her way out as the doorbell rings a second time.

“What took so long?” Chloe asks.

“Oh, just saying goodbye.” I feel my cheeks flushing.

“Aw, of course, you were. I love it,” Chloe says with a giddy grin.

“Just so you know, we have security following us today. Ethan swears they’ll be discreet, and we won’t know they’re around.”

“I know. Nick is one of them.”

“Oh, Ethan didn’t mention Nick.”

“He knows Nick cares about you, and will be diligent about making sure you’re okay,” she says, smiling knowingly. “And Ethan’s right. The guys are great about disappearing into the background. Don’t tell Ethan, but they’ll probably be a little more relaxed than usual because Nick knows you’re with me.”

We sit down for lunch in a cute little restaurant on the square. At first, it feels like any other day Chloe and I would go out for lunch and shopping. Looking around, I would never suspect everyone here is a werewolf. Ethan included a photo of me in the email he sent out to the pack to let everyone know I’m his guest, and there’s no doubt in my mind people are beginning to recognize me. I’m noticing a lot of second glances in my direction, followed by shared whispers.

“Do they know?” I whisper to Chloe. “Do they all know I’m human?” I look down, moving the salad around on my plate.

“They know, and if a human is here as the Alpha’s guest, they also know you are not just any regular visitor. And yes, they are probably already wondering if you’re his mate, which, as you can imagine, leads to a lot of gossip. Don’t worry about everyone else. Just enjoy your day.” Chloe scans the room and I notice people look away when her eyes meet theirs.

“They aren’t the only ones with a lot of questions. I still don’t know how this is supposed to work with me being human or about this Luna role everyone expects me to take on.”

“You need to talk to Ethan. Tell him you want to know everything.”
