“I don’t know. It’s a lot to process, Chloe. I’m having a really hard time wrapping my mind around this.”

“I really wish Ethan hadn’t shown you his canines the way he did. You’re…you’re not afraid of me now…are you, Liv? I promise you I’m the same person you’ve known this whole time. Knowing this about me doesn’t change who I am.”

I shake my head. “I’m not afraid of you,” I say, and I mean it. I’m not. “I asked for the truth, and he gave it to me.”

“About tonight, Olivia—you know Colin can’t know anything about what you’ve been told, right? I’m sorry, but we just can’t risk it.”

“Trust me. I’m in no hurry to go around telling anyone werewolves are real. Your secret is safe with me.” I look at my phone, but he still hasn’t responded. Maybe he’s already in bed.

“Thank you. And, I really am sorry.”

I nod my head. “I know. We’ll be okay,” I say with a small smile. “Can I ask you a few questions?”

“Of course. Anything.” Chloe sits across from me on the bed.

“So, how does it happen, changing into a wolf?”

“It’s just something that happens naturally. Nick and I were both sixteen when it first happened. It’s really painful at first as the bones shift and the body changes its form. Over time, it no longer hurts, and it can be done just by thinking about it. As you saw tonight, we can also elongate our canines without making the entire shift.”

“And you look like an actual wolf?”

“Yes. We’re bigger, but it’s nothing cartoonish or scary like some movies may try to make you believe.”

“The bar we’ve been going to for years is called The Pack House. I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that’s not just a coincidence?”

Chloe smiles and shrugs her shoulders. “Not exactly. A friend of ours here owns it, and it’s a popular hangout for people from our society.”

“You’ve been taking me to a werewolf bar all this time, and I had no idea?”

Chloe laughs. “It’s not just a werewolf bar. There are plenty of humans that hang out there too.”

“I noticed it seemed pretty easy for Ethan to drag me out of there over his shoulder. They know him there, don’t they?”

“A lot of people who were there tonight know of Ethan and his Alpha status, yes.”

I shake my head and sigh. “Unbelievable. I heard your dad call me Luna. What does that mean?” I’m unsure if I really want to know the answer.

“It’s the title for the Alpha’s mate. Think of the Alpha as the dominant king of the pack and the Luna as the queen.”

“Your dad thinks that about me? Why?”

“Because you are,” Chloe says softly, with a smile.

“You want me to be queen of the wolves?” I scoff and roll my eyes at the thought. “This just gets better and better.”

Chloe giggles at my question, but answers, “It’s not even about what I want, Olivia. It’s just about what’s meant to be.”

“You really believe this, don’t you? You believe I’m somehow destined to be with Ethan?”

Chloe nods. “I do.”

“So, you think he’s a good guy?”

“Yes. He’s Nick’s best friend. He’s a good man and a fair leader. He’s well-liked and respected here. I don’t want you to judge Ethan by what you’ve seen so far. Finding your mate is an intense experience. It’s our instinct to connect with and protect that person, especially for an Alpha, who is going to be more dominant as it is. It’s in his bloodline. He’s stronger and faster than another male. He’s also more headstrong and assertive, as you know,” she says with a laugh.

“But, I’m engaged to Colin.” I sigh in frustration. “Chloe, he doesn’t know I kissed Ethan. How am I going to tell him? I still can’t believe I did that. You know that’s not me.”

“I don’t think you should be worrying about confessions right now. What happened when we left you and Ethan alone earlier?”
