“You were fine with it when Ethan dated all those girls,” Caroline comes back at Edwin.

“Ethan didn’t date within the pack, and I don’t want some guy trying to do with my daughter what Ethan was probably out doing,” Edwin says, almost immediately realizing his mistake of making such a statement in front of Ethan’s newly turned mate.

The anger and jealousy boil up within me. I don’t usually react like this. I know we both have a past, but right now, the thought of him with other women makes me want to explode. The heat rises to my face, turning my skin red, and my angry gaze is now directed straight at Ethan.

“I’m sorry, you two,” Edwin says. “It was a mistake to make such an unnecessary comment.”

“Baby, calm down. You know you’re the only one for me.” Ethan takes my hand as the tears start to pool in my eyes. “Excuse us for just a minute.” Ethan guides me up and takes me down the hall to his office, where he closes the door.

I immediately let the tears fall from my eyes. I’m so confused. I know I don’t have anything to be worried about, but I can’t help this instinctual feeling I have to claim him as mine. “I’m sorry. I don’t know what’s going on with me.”

“Olivia, it’s the bond. It’s okay. You’ll learn to control it.”

“I don’t want to be this way. In my head, I know you and I have both been with other people, and I was fine with that before. Did I want to think about it? No, but I was rational.”

“Liv, it’s instinct. Trust me. I get it. You’ve seen my jealous episodes.”

“I embarrassed myself in front of your parents.”

“They understand. They went through all the instinctual, jealous feelings themselves at one time,” he tries to reassure me. “Look at me.” He cups my face in his hands. “Despite being with other people in the past, do you think I want to be with anyone other than you?”

“No,” I answer quietly.

“Do you believe I love you?”

“Yes,” I say with a small smile.

“Do you know how long I’ve waited for you to have this kind of jealously for me?” he says with a grin.

“What?” I laugh with surprise. “You want me to be jealous like this?”

“Remember how you thought it was kind of hot? Yeah, same here. You want me and don’t want anyone else to have me,” he says with a grin.

I roll my eyes. “I’m glad this amuses you.”

“I’m sorry. I know you have a lot of genuinely confusing emotions right now. Are you okay?”

“I’m better now.”

“Let’s go. Don’t worry. It’s fine.” He takes my hand, and we walk back to the table together.

“Caroline, Edwin, please accept my apology for my behavior. I guess I’m experiencing some new feelings and they’re going to take a little time to recognize and control,” I say as I sit down at the table.

“No apology necessary, Olivia,” Caroline says with a warm smile. “We’ve all been there.”

“I should have known how vulnerable you are right now, and to be honest, we’re still getting used to Ethan having someone around who would care about that comment,” Edwin says, his eyes concerned.

“Let’s just change the topic,” Caroline says, attempting to lighten the mood.

“Hold on, hold on,” Ethan says. “Who is Vanessa out with tonight?”

“Some guy in security.” Edwin shakes his head and rolls his eyes.

“He seems like a nice guy,” Caroline defends. “His name is Austin.”

“What? Did you say Austin?” Ethan sits up straight. “Where are they?”

Edwin leans forward in attention. “Why? What’s wrong?”
