“It’s more about showing you than telling you,” said Mikhail. He took the whole dish of bacon that Dora left a minute ago and started munching on them.

“Will Yakim and Leon join us?” I asked.

“Yakim’s not around,” said Mikhail.

“And Leon’s still locked up with those bastards,” said Lilja darkly.

Dora’s cooking was so amazing, we all fell quiet and devoured our breakfast eagerly.

“Let’s show her now,” said Mikhail when I was taking the last sip of my coffee. “Yakim’s given me a job, so I can’t hang around much today.”

“Thanks, Dora,” I told the woman who’d joined us at the table.

She waved a hand at us, continuing to eat her breakfast.

Mikhail and Lilja led me out of the kitchen. Following a familiar path, we reached the third-floor wing where Lilja’s room was located.

Instead of heading into her room, she came to stand outside a different door. Mikhail grinned at me, making my heart dance in excitement.

“This is going to be your room from now on,” said Lilja as she opened the door.

She stepped away, allowing me to enter the room first.

Peering in, I found a room that was similar to Lilja’s in proportion and décor. A nice, big bed, covered in luxurious sheets and pillows, was set in the corner. Dark mahogany furniture dotted the place. I passed by a plush couch and stood before a desk in the corner.

Lilja sprinted across the room and opened another door. “Check this out.”

Walking over to her, I realized she was holding the door to a walk-in closet. The space was smaller than hers with a lot fewer clothes but I smiled. The clothes I chose yesterday were all hanging in a neat row.

“This is amazing!” I breathed, glancing at Lilja. “Thank you so much for all this.”

“You should be thanking him,” she replied, gesturing over at Mikhail who was leaning against the closet door.

“Really?” I asked, gazing at him.

“You’re going to be with us for a long time, Lucia,” he said in a deep voice. His silvery eyes were calm and sincere. “We might as well keep you comfortable.”

I covered the short distance between us and threw my arms around his neck. Drawing my body against his, I whispered, “Thank you!”

His arms came around me, pulling me closer. Leaning in, he captured my lips in a deep, searing kiss.

I opened up to him willingly, letting my tongue tangle with his. Pure heat flooded my body as I hung onto him, kissing him back with the same fervor.

Lilja coughed loudly, making me jump away.

“I was going to tell you guys to get a room but looks like you’ve already got one.” She winked cheekily.

“I can’t believe this,” I said, walking out of the closet. “There’s even a TV here! Did Yakim really allow all this?”

“You’re still going to be locked in here,” Mikhail said in a grim tone.

“Oh.” A sliver of disappointment hit me but I ignored it. At least, I was going to have a TV to watch, some amazing clothes to wear and a proper bathroom. These upgrades would keep me comfortable and over time, Yakim would see he could trust me enough to let me walk around the manor.

“I need to get going,” said Mikhail, pecking my cheek.

“When will you be back?”

“Not for a few days at least,” he said in a grim tone. Glancing over at Lilja, he added, “Shit’s about to go down soon, so be extra careful.”
