I glanced toward Mikhail.

He gave a slow nod. Picking up on the cue, I headed inside the tent with the clothes I wanted to wear for the rest of the day.

Other than a rickety chair, there was nothing inside the tent. I hurriedly took off the dirty trousers. Next, I pulled off the jacket and sweatshirt.

For the day, I chose to wear a top with long, frilly sleeves and a short skirt. My ensemble was bold and colorful, a far cry from the usual pastels Callum forced me to wear. For shoes, I chose a pair of leather boots that went as high as my knees.

There was no mirror in the tent. Despite not knowing how I looked, I felt excited to be wearing the stuffIchose.

A wolf whistle sounded when I walked out of the tent. Jacky hung onto Mikhail’s shoulder, grinning at me.

“And a butterfly has emerged,” Jacky cackled.

“She was always beautiful,” Mikhail said in a somber tone. Tearing his gaze from me, he looked toward Jacky. “I’ll pick up the rest of the stuff later.”

“Sure.”

“Give my regards to Forger,” said Mikhail.

“Will do!”

He gestured at me to follow him. I waved at Jacky and hurried after him.

On the way back to the parking area, I saw Kiara. A deep frown marred her pretty face as she glared at me.

I ignored her, moving forward to grab Mikhail’s hand.

He looked down at me. Surprise flitted through those storm-colored eyes. Then, he smiled.

My heartbeat picked up at once. All thoughts of Kiara vanished from my mind as I followed him in a trance.

“Are you still missing panties?” he leaned down to whisper in my ear.

My cheeks burned. “Yeah.”

“Let’s make it a no-panty day today,” he said with an easy grin.

“What?”

“Payment for all that crap I bought for you.”

“They were free!”

“Nothing’s free, Princess. Jacky’s boss owes me.”

Reaching his bike, he picked up a helmet and placed it on my head. I stood still as he latched the buckle.

Getting on the bike was as awkward as before but once I was securely settled behind him, I wrapped my arms around his waist.

My excitement rose as the engines came to life and soon, we were flying down a highway.

The signposts along the road told me we were headed toward Ashville. A sliver of anxiety spread through me. What if Callum saw me? Would Mikhail be able to handle such a confrontation on his own? Would my newfound freedom be snatched away just as I was starting to enjoy it?

My thoughts kept me from enjoying the ride fully. Thankfully, the sun was starting to go down. A few hours more and we could use the cover of night to keep prying eyes off us.

We reached downtown Ashville an hour later. I was familiar with all the shops and restaurants here.

Mikhail parked the bike and came to stand beside me. “No running,” he warned once more. “I’d hate to punish you again, Lucia.”
