If Lucia was truly innocent, none of us would be able to forgive ourselves for hurting her last night. We were able to force ourselves on her solely because of the burning hate and rage we felt against her and Callum.

“I brought her inside,” Leon said stubbornly. “We’ve got to find out the truth before proceeding further. It’s important we do, Yakim.”

Mikhail stayed silent but watched me intently.

“Where are you keeping her?” I asked instead.

“One of the rooms in the southern quarter,” said Leon.

My phone buzzed inside my pocket. Taking it out, I saw a text from our ground security manager.

Callum Baldwin is here, I read.Three cars. Total of thirteen men. ETA 5 mins.

“He’s here,” I said aloud.

“He’s late, isn’t he?” said Leon. “He must’ve spent the whole night torturing those poor ball-less men.” The hint of empathy in his voice was amusing.

“Meet me in the entrance hall,” I said, draining the last of my cooled coffee. “I’ll bring Lucia to the front.”

“We’ll just be talking, won’t we?” Mikhail asked as I rose.

“That’s all he’ll be doing if he wants to walk out of here alive,” I said. “There’s a chance he’ll get nasty though. The bastard has spent a sleepless night and he’ll not be returning home with his sister. He might get tetchy about it. All in all, be on guard.”

“So, we’re keeping her?” Leon asked in a hopeful voice as I moved toward the doorway.

“For now,” I answered shortly and walked out.

Lucia

Leon left me in a barely furnished room. A part of me expected to see more chains and manacles hanging from the ceiling but astonishingly, there was nothing much to see except a single cot lined up against the wall.

Early morning sunshine came in through a single window, illuminating the modestly-sized room. The walls were painted a simple beige. Even the blankets on the bed were plain white.

A sliver of relief went through me.

This room was so much better than the dark basement they’d left me in all night. The sunshine streaming through the glass panes seemed like the most precious thing in the world to me right now.

After a few minutes of exploration, I found a tiny closet-sized bathroom attached to the room.Yes, I cheered internally, relieved that I wouldn’t be forced to pee in front of Mikhail again.

My heart slowly calmed down.

Moving toward the window, I fiddled with the latch. A smile came to my lips as the latch unlocked, allowing me to push open the panes.

Cold air blew in, playing with the stray strands on my forehead. My body shivered from the frigid air but I stood by the window, thoroughly enjoying the fresh air.

It was a while before Leon’s words came back to my mind. Giving it a deeper thought, I decided it was better they kept me here instead of handing me over to Callum.

If they kept me here long enough, Callum would surely start assuming I was dead. At the very least, his obsession would take a hit. Would he prize me as much if he knew I was no longer a virgin?

I pitied my life.

Three psychotic men with no remorse kidnapped me and abused me, and here I was, counting my blessings to be away from my brother.

I hoped Dad would stay strong until I could get him out of that house. For now, I just had to find a way to survive these men.

I was lost in my thoughts when the door of the room was suddenly thrown open. To my horror, it was the guy with the badly scarred face. Seeing him in a well-lit room didn’t make me feel any better. He still scared me.
