“Yep,” Leon answered in a grave tone. “Yakim’s going to have a fit.”

“Don’t worry,” I said, smiling. “I’ll tell Yakim I tripped and hurt myself in the ladies’ room. He can’t blame you for my clumsiness.”

“You’ll do that for us?” Leon asked, his amber eyes wide with surprise. “You don’t want to get even with us for treating you like crap?”

“I hate what you did to me after kidnapping me from that sham wedding,” I said in a grim tone. “You guys forced yourselves on me and left me naked in a dark room. I understand the reason behind treating me that way but I’ll never forget the pain and trauma I went through. I wish there was a way to avenge myself but doing that would hurt you, and that’s something I’ll never do.”

Sober expressions descended on both their faces.

“Callum’s the only monster in our story,” said Mikhail. “Don’t worry, love.” Leaning in, he kissed my cheek. “We’ll destroy him until he’s begging us for death.”

“Let’s get out of here before someone sees us,” said Leon, glancing at the rivulets of blood streaming toward us.

And just like that, I walked away with Leon and Mikhail, never looking back to see whether Casey was still alive or not.

Yakim

Sweat dripped down my neck as I prowled down the corridor. After the three-hour workout session, my body was screaming for sustenance. A steak sandwich and a protein shake were what I needed right now.

Soft cluttering sounds reached my ears as I neared the kitchen. It wasn’t noon yet and still early for Dora to start preparing for lunch.

Slowing my footsteps, I peered through the door. To my surprise, it was Lucia who was whisking something in a large copper bowl. Dora was nowhere in sight.

“What are you doing here?” I asked, striding inside the room.

Lucia looked up at me, her emerald eyes widening in surprise. “Hey,” she said in a small voice and looked away guiltily, continuing to beat the batter.

My suspicion prickled at once. What could she have done to be guilty?

I prowled closer, taking in the bags of flour and sugar, packets of chocolate chips, and a carton of eggs.

“Who’s making you cook?” I asked as she continued to look away.

“No one,” she murmured. “Lilja said her favorite cake was chocolate, so I was baking one for her. She’s been so sweet to me all this time, I wanted to do something for her. If I had money, I’d have taken her out to a spa or something.”

Her explanation sounded fine but why was she still avoiding me?

Reaching out, I placed a hand on hers, stopping her from whisking like a maniac. A shiver jolted through her at my touch. She stayed still, reluctant to look at me.

Hooking a finger under her chin, I lifted her face to me. Those jewel-like green eyes stared at me, hypnotizing me for a moment. I blinked, my gaze falling on a bruise on the right side of her forehead.

My chest squeezed at once. How did she get hurt?

“What happened last night?” I asked, caressing the spot with a gentle finger.

“This?” she said, chuckling nervously. “It’s all my fault. I was clumsy and fell. All my fault.”

My brows rose high on my forehead. She was trying a little too hard to convince me she fell and hurt herself.

“You were always a bad liar,” I said.

Fear flitted through her eyes.

“Who hurt you?” I asked in a deep, grim tone. “Was it my brothers?”

“No!”
