Callum was Lucia’s brother. There was no way he could be as merciless as this.

I looked toward Yakim and Mikhail. All my courage seeped out of me as I took in their bloodied, beaten bodies that lay next to me.

It was a while before the men in cheap black suits were satisfied with our states. They left us on the cold, hard ground and moved away.

Pained, shallow groans sounded among us. Our broken bodies refused to move despite the danger lurking over us.

Hours seemed to crawl by.

Anxiety rippled through me. My brothers’ injuries had to be as bad as mine. We all needed a trip to the ER to make sure we weren’t bleeding internally.

A black haze hovered over me, threatening to drown me.

“They’re over here,” I heard the fucking tyrant speak.

The sound of heavy soles hitting the grassy ground reached my ear. Opening my eyes, I looked up at Lucia’s brother.

There wasn’t a shred of remorse in those dark, cold eyes. I couldn’t believe this man was related to our angel and her father.

“Good,” said Callum as he slowly circled me and my brothers.

This was the first time we were meeting him. He’d been away from home over the past couple of years, managing Mr. Baldwin’s business in Europe. Lucia didn’t speak of him much, so we never really cared for him much.

I expected Callum to be the same as his father and sister.

Mr. Baldwin was the kindest man we’d come across during our time on the streets. He sheltered us in his home and allowed us to stay even though we were all strangers to him.

Lucia was the same as him, treating us with nothing but warmth and kindness.

Where are they now?I wondered as Callum bent down to grab Yakim’s collar and yanked his head up.

“Let my brothers go,” Yakim mumbled through bloodied, bruised lips. “They have nothing to do with this. Kill me if you want but let them go.”

“Ah! So, youdoknow what it’s like to care for a sibling,” said Callum.

“Please, let them g—” A cruel punch fell on Yakim’s cheek before he could complete the sentence.

“I’ll not spare the dogs who dared to touch my sister,” Callum barked as he shook my brother’s limp body.

A silver flash caught my eye.

My blood turned to ice as I realized what it was. Callum held a switchblade in his hand and it was dangerously close to Yakim’s face.

“Lucia likes us,” Yakim said haltingly as he coughed up blood. “She wouldn’t want you to hurt us.”

“My sister told me you were trash that she picked up off the side of the road because she was bored,” said Callum. “You and your brothers mean nothing to her.”

“That’s not true,” Yakim argued.

Callum’s hold on my brother’s hair tightened. “Lucia ismysister. I know what’s true about her and what’s not. She doesn’t want you boys hanging around her anymore.”

“Fine, we’ll go,” said Yakim. “Just...let us go.”

Callum lowered his face to my brother’s. “What’s the hurry? I’m not done with you yet.” He placed the knife’s tip against Yakim’s cheek and slashed.

A cry escaped my lips as his blood spurted on the grass. “Stop it!” I screamed.

Callum chuckled, his eyes gleaming with malice as he held my weakly-resisting brother in his clutches.
