Caleb raised his fist and showed me his bruised knuckles. “I’m marvelous,” he said with a grin that didn’t reach his eyes. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to break that weasel’s face.”

Corey stood up and turned toward his brother. “Was it as good as an orgasm?”

“Almost as good.”

“Noah missed out on the best part of the evening,” said Corey, looking over at the doorway.

“I’m glad he took all the guests away before they could witness this ugliness,” I said as anxiety crept over me.

“You think Bill Beckett would show his true colors to them?” Caleb asked in a grim tone. “He made sure the room was empty before laying out his proposition.”

Corey gestured for a valet to come to us.

“Drink up,” he said, handing flutes of champagne to both Caleb and me.

I took a grateful sip, wishing it was something stronger.

“Hey,” a familiar voice sounded in the distance. “Why are you guys still here? Everyone’s missing you in the banquet hall.”

Noah strode toward us, looking curious.

“You missed something spectacular,” said Corey. “Milla singlehandedly pissed off Beckett Sr. and showed him the door.”

“What?” Noah’s expression was a mix of surprise and worry. Glancing at me, he asked, “What happened?”

My gaze roved around the room, taking in the valets who threw covert glances our way. They’d already witnessed the nasty fight. There was no need to give them any more fodder for gossip.

“Let’s go up to my room,” I said in a grim tone. “But first, text Brian and tell him that everything’s okay or he’ll worry.”

Getting to my feet, I led the way out of the room and into the corridor outside. There was a separate flight of stairs further inside the house that allowed a discreet path to go upstairs without being seen by any of the guests.

Reaching my room, I opened the door and walked inside.

Noah, Corey, and Caleb followed me, spreading around the room.

“Will someone tell me what happened while I was gone?” Noah asked, looking around at us after we’d all sat down.

“Luke wanted me to marry him and—”

“What?” Outraged roars broke out all around me before I could finish.

“That fuckface proposed to you?” Caleb growled, rubbing his bruised knuckles.

“Should’ve kicked him in the face, Cal,” Corey replied in an enraged tone. “A punch wasn’t enough.”

Noah raised his hand, stopping the flow of curses from his brothers.

“Did he come with a ring?” Noah asked.

Cold chuckles escaped me. “There was nothing romantic about his proposal,” I said. “He wanted me to marry him and convince all our investors to sell their shares to him. Once he and Daddy Beckett held majority shares, they’d swallow up Amhurst Co. and kick you guys out. This was his ingenious plan to destroy you by using me.”

“Wow,” Caleb breathed. “The bastard needs a kick in the nuts for that.”

“Luke kissed me and he—”

“Wait. What?” Rage darkened Noah’s silvery eyes. “He didwhat?”

“Keep up, No,” said Corey. “Luke kissed Milla and Caleb hit him in the face. Cal says it felt as good as sex.”
