I couldn’t even tell they were made of turkey. She’d spiced them with garlic and herbs so well, the flavor was incredible.

Milla took dainty bites of her pasta as she watched us gobble her food up.

“Are you bad at anything?” Noah asked.

“Huh?” Milla glanced at him curiously.

“You’re an amazing cook,” said Noah through a mouthful of pasta.

Surprise flickered through her. “Did you just compliment me?”

Noah grinned.

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. My ice-king brother was smiling.

“This is really delicious, kiddo,” said Dad in a warm voice.

Without knowing the truth, we’d have mistaken the affection in his smile. Painful as it was, I was glad he told us the truth.

“There’s something I’ve been thinking about,” said Dad after he’d cleared his plate. “I needed to talk to all four of you.”

“What is it?” asked Milla, looking anxious at once.

“Let’s not delay the handover process anymore,” he said. “I’m feeling much stronger now. The doctors say I’m going to be fine as long as I take my meds in time, eat healthy, and stress less. I want to complete the official procedures of handing you my position as soon as possible.”

“What’s the rush?” Milla asked.

“We don’t know when the next attack will happen,” said Dad. “It could be tomorrow or a year later. It’s good to be prepared. Besides, I don’t see a point in delaying.”

“I agree,” said Noah in a grim tone. He looked over at me and Corey. “You guys don’t mind either, do you?”

“No,” I replied. “We’ve wanted Milla to take the position long before this.”

Corey gave a nod.

“Good,” said Dad. “I’ve spoken to my lawyers. Milla can officially take over my position in a week.”

“Brian!” Milla looked thoroughly exasperated. “The doctors told you not to take on any stress!”

“This isn’t stress,” Dad said with a chuckle.

“Tell me what needs to be done,” said Noah. “I’ll arrange everything. Neither you nor Milla needs to worry about anything. Leave all the details to me.”

“Thank you, Son,” said Dad, looking at Noah with warmth in his eyes.

“We’ll help as well,” said Corey. “Won’t we, Caleb?”

“Yep,” I said.

“You’re finally understanding what’s at stake,” said Dad. “Working together will strengthen and motivate you when the going gets tough. Never forget that you’re stronger together.”

The four of us glanced around at each other and nodded.

“Arrange for a party,” said Dad. “Make it the grandest one we’ve ever had. Invite the upper management and all our investors along with guests from the industry. It’s important to exude our confidence in Milla in front of them all.”

“Guests from the industry?” I questioned. “Do you mean our clients?”

Dad gave a nod. “Not just clients. We’re inviting our competitors as well. It’s all for putting on a good show.”
