“What do you think?” I asked, desperate to know if she’d give me a chance to redeem myself.

“I’ll try,” she finally spoke up.

A hint of a smile blossomed on her luscious lips, leaving me struck dumb. It’d been way too long since I saw a genuine smile on her pretty face.

To my surprise, she grabbed my hand.

“Come on,” she said, tugging on my arm. “Let’s go home. Corey and Caleb need you as well. They’re dealing with the same grief as you.”

“You still care for us.”

She glanced sideways at me.

“I know I shouldn’t.”

“Don’t say that, Milla. We’ll do our best to make you see we’ve changed. You can trust us.”

“Maybe in time...”

That’s all I wanted.

A chance to make things right. As long as she gave me the opportunity, I’d show her what she truly meant to me.

Three days passed since I last saw Noah, Corey, and Caleb.

Brian was better but was still recuperating at the hospital. The three brothers conveniently avoided me every time I went to visit him.

They were hiding in the headquarters too. Every time I called their offices, their assistants lied for them, telling me they were away from their desks.

Out of options, I sent Mallory to spy for me. That’s the only reason I knew they were coming to work as usual.

Brian’s revelations cooled my anger and hatred. After feeling like I was always on the losing side, it came as a miracle to be told I wasn’t an orphan after all.

My father was still alive, and he’d always been around, watching over me and protecting me.

Mom knew what he’d been going through with Victoria.

Dad’s story reminded me of a conversation I once had with her. She’d said Victoria and Brian were great business partners but terrible at being a family.

Victoria has a lot to answer to, Mom’s words rang in my mind.

Victoria was a master manipulator. She made a victim out of herself when she’d been the one to make Mom and Brian suffer so much.

She hadn’t even spared me in her vendetta against them.

Growing up without knowing anything about my dad was one of the most horrible things I suffered. Was there anything as self-degrading as knowing your dad didn’t care about you, that you were unwanted?

Brian’s revelations wiped away all the angst trapped inside me.

I should’ve been celebrating the truth but a heaviness settled deep inside me. My happiness brought a disastrous sadness for Corey, Caleb, and Noah.

They were suddenly facing the fact thattheywere orphans and abandoned. It wasn’t an easy thing to accept when they were coddled and protected all their lives by Brian.

Noah’s crumpled, pain-filled face rose in my mind. The sight left me feeling disconcerted and shaken. I could’ve never imagined such an expression on him.
