I was about to head into my office when Mallory called out my name.

“Hey, Mal,” I said, turning toward her, noticing her newly-done bubble-pink hair. “What’s up?”

“Someone’s been waiting to see you.” She gestured toward someone behind me.

Turning around, I found myself staring at an old friend.

“It’s really you, Milla,” said Luke Beckett.

My eyes widened at the sight of him. His dark suit complemented his lean figure, accentuating his tall height. Eyes of deep silver gazed into mine.

A strange smile lifted the corners of his lips as he moved forward, coming to stand right before me. Without warning, he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into a tight hug.

A gasp escaped me.

“I’ve missed you so much, Milla,” he whispered in my ear, pressing his hard body against mine. “Where were you these past five years?”

“What are you doing here?” I asked, wondering how a ghost from my past knew where to find me.

Stepping away, he let his gaze rake me from head to toe.

“You look so different from before but you’re still so beautiful, Milla.”

A grin lifted the corners of my lips at the compliment. “Thanks. You look great too.”

“I can’t believe you’re the great Azalea Amhurst rumored to be coming to Silverlake City,” he said with a keen look in his eyes. “I came to see her and instead, I’m seeing an old friend from college.”

“Why don’t you come inside my office,” I said, gesturing toward the closed door. “Mal can get us some coffee and we can catch up.”

“I’d love that but are you sure you want to invite the enemy further inside the castle?”

“What?”

“You’re forgetting who I am.” A grim look settled over him. “You never cared for my name or background, did you?”

“What are you talking about?”

“Beckett Industries is Amhurst Co.’s biggest competitor,” he said in a serious tone.

“I don’t care about outside competition,” I said in an equally serious tone. “I believe in competing with my best self. Whether it’s Beckett Industries or someone else, I know I’ll leave them behind in the dust as long as I stay focused on my work.”

“That’s the attitude that made you the queen of Silicon Valley.”

“Forget about that,” I said with a shake of my head. “Do you want to come in and have coffee with an old friend or not?”

“You’re still the same,” he said, smiling at me. “You’ve changed your name and your looks but you’re still the same, ol’ Camilla Brown.”

Was I?I questioned myself silently.

On my way to my office door, I spoke to my assistant. “Get someone to bring us some coffee and donuts, please.”

“On it, Azalea,” said Mal, reaching for the phone at once.

Opening the door, I gestured for him to come inside.

Luke walked in, his gaze taking in the simple décor of the room.

“When did you start working here?” he asked as we took our seats on the couch set in the corner.
