“Stay inside the car!” I shouted at him. “Don’t let them catch you too.”

Noah stayed still inside the car, staring at me with an expressionless face.

“Sshh,” Luke hissed in my ear. “You’re not giving orders here.”

The car door opened.

“Don’t,” I screamed as panic took hold of me. “Don’t get out of the car. Stay inside and call for help.”

“No one can help you tonight,” Luke spoke in my ear, his hot breath fanning against my throat uncomfortably. “You’re all mine now.”

I thrashed against him, uselessly struggling to break out of his hold.

Fear snaked around my neck, choking me as Noah climbed out of the car and stomped toward us.

Under the glow of the streetlamps, his eyes gleamed with an ice-cold light.

A group of at least thirty men fanned out behind him. What’s he doing? My mind screamed at me.They’re going to kill him.

Before he could get near me and Luke, a man attacked him from the back.

A roar of rage erupted from Noah’s mouth as he turned around to grab the man who hit him. He punched his assailant in the gut, sending him flying to the ground.

Noah might’ve won against one of them but over two dozen men were flanking Luke. There was no way Noah could take them all at once.

“Let’s watch from over there,” said Luke, dragging my cold, numb body to the sidewalk.

Noah was desperately fighting the men who’d surrounded him. Now and then, one of them successfully made a hit on him.

Within minutes, Noah was bleeding from his forehead and his beaten body was beginning to sway. It wouldn’t be long before he hit the ground.

“Tell them to stop,” I screamed, my voice barely audible over the shouts of men. “Please, Luke. Please tell them to stop. He can’t take any more hits.”

“Then he shouldn’t have stepped out to fight them,” Luke’s cold voice sounded in my ear.

Noah fell to the ground but the men around him continued kicking him.

Fear and panic choked me so hard I could barely form a word. My eyes seemed to be glued to the gruesome sight, my mind scrambling around in my brain to find a way to get out of the situation.

Luke’s hold loosened, allowing me to throw his arms off me and run to Noah.

The men parted, letting me fall to my knees beside him.

“Oh no!” I gasped, not knowing where to touch him. His entire body was beaten up so badly, his clothes were wet with blood. “No, no, no!” I gingerly felt touched his face and my fingers came away coated with warm, sticky blood.

“Why?” A scream tore out from my throat. “Why’d you have to hurt him?”

Tears cast a haze before my eyes.

A figure in a black suit came toward me.

“You should’ve never come back to Silverlake City, Camilla,” Luke’s voice sounded over me. “I’d have eventually destroyed Amhurst Co. and driven the Amhurst family out of this town. You ruined all my plans.”

His fingers grabbed my hair, pulling so hard I was forced to stand up or endure the pain of losing a big chunk.

I struggled against the pain without making a sound, intent on not giving him any pleasure.

“Enough already,” I grated through clenched teeth. “Let us go.”
