He takes hold of my arm and helps me up to my feet. It takes a minute to get through the dizziness.

“Get him home before he keels over,” Sparky grunts, and I’m led to Shane’s truck. Shane tosses Myles the keys and then helps me up onto the seat.

Fuck, these fuckers are stronger than I give them credit for.

Leo whistles as Myles jumps in behind the wheel. He leans on the passenger window trim.

“Mase, you have a good head on you. I need you to use it. I wanna take the club places, and I need to know you’re at my side.”

Swallowing blood, I swear to him, “You can trust me, never again will I let you down.”

He nods once, then looks past me to Myles. “Get him home, keep an eye on him. If he needs help, get him to the hospital.”

“Fuck you. This is nothing.”

“Yeah, it looks like it.”

Leo slams the truck roof, and Myles pulls away and out of the club.

“Seriously, are you good?”

“I just need to be home with Aspen. I’m good.”

“Dex reminded the brothers that if Pope were still here, he’d call for their patch.”

Wheezing out a small breath, I struggle to say, “Grumps would’ve done. People knew him well… was it an option? Taking my patch.”

Myles shakes his head. “Nah, Leo struck it down faster than Dex could finish the sentence. He just wanted to show everyone that he’s different from Cas.”

“I don’t blame him. I disobeyed him, and it cost us greatly.”

“I take it you’ve got ten grand to give the club?”

I snort and immediately regret it. Pain shoots around my side.

“Yeah, but with twins on the way, it’s gonna be a hit. Fuck knows how much the hospital bills are gonna be for having two babies. And it’s not like I’m gonna be earning before they’re born.”

“I’d love to lie and tell you they’re not that expensive, but they fuckin’ are. I don’t have twins, but I do have two of the brats, and there’s not a day goes by that I’m not paying for something.”

“I’ve never heard you complain before.”

“And I’m not doing so now. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t buy for them. Whether they need or want it, it’s theirs to have. I’d give them the clothes off my back if it meant extra warmth for them.”

“I know you would.”

I doze on and off, and when Myles turns onto our street, Aspen is sitting on our porch steps.

“Did you text her?”

“Fuck yeah, I had to warn her. I didn’t want her to panic when she saw you and cause problems with the babies.”

I hadn’t thought of it like that. I’m glad he did it. Though she’s not panicking, she is worried as she takes in my injuries as I limp my way up the front path.

“I don’t understand why they’d do this to you. Isn’t losing your father enough?”

“Aspen, help me get him inside, and then you can grill him.”

I’m helped into the house, and I fall onto the couch. It’s where I plan to stay for the next few days.
