And it explains why I have a small bump so early. From everything I could read, it was pretty early to be showing at all.

Chapter Eleven

Myles

“Why are we stopping?” I ask the prospect.

Mase’s and I’s bikes are stored in the back of the van, and we get the pleasure of being passengers home.

“Leo said we’re stopping for the night. There’s a motel and a bar.”

In all honesty, I could do with stretching my legs and not being bounced around in the van. I look at Mase, and I know he feels the same.

I pop another pain med into my mouth and swallow it down as the prospect parks up.

Zach heads into the main office, and Leo walks over, motioning for me to lower the window.

“Thought you could do with a break. We’ll get some sleep and ride out at first light.”

“Sounds good to us.”

A part of me can’t wait to get home. I get to see my old lady and my kids, but with that excitement comes dread. Because mymother will be waiting to greet us and she’s about to receive the worst news of her life. She knows I’m back with the club but Cas says Grumps has told him that she’s working herself up not having spoken to me or Mase, and especially not dad.

Shoving open the door, I hold my breath as the pain in my side rockets as I slide out. I hold my hand out for Mase, but he doesn’t see it and struggles the same as I do.

Zach comes out with a bunch of keys, but Mase and I have our eye on the bar across the street. As do most of the brothers.

“Prospect!” Leo hollers. “Stay with the truck. Any trouble, defend it with your life.”

Cas, Sparky, and Dex reach the bar first, and Leo and JJ stay close in case we pussy out and fall over.

Mase and I slide into a booth over in the corner, Leo already saying he’ll get the first round of drinks in.

Mason places his phone on the table, and if his glare could burn a hole in it, it’d be up in flames now.

“Just call her.”

I saw the message she sent him not too long ago. There’s no way she’s going to call him. And in her defence, she shouldn’t have to. This is on my brother to make the first move reaching out.

“There’s nothing to say that I haven’t said already.”

“Why not try saying something you haven’t said yet? Like, I’m an asshole. I’m sorry. Please come home.”

“She’ll still be pregnant.”

“Whether you speak to her or not, she’ll still be pregnant, and you’ll still be an asshole who’s fighting against the best thing in his life.”

“Fuck you.”

“No, thanks. I’m happy in my relatioship with my old lady, and besides, it’s just incestuous.”

“I sometimes see why people think you’re fuckin’ crazy.”

“Best to keep them on their toes. Besides, what else am I gonna do? Cry that my dad’s gone? It’s not gonna bring him back. It’s not gonna stop our mom from having her heart broken. It’s not…”

“Yes!” he hisses. “I get it.”

Leo dumps bottles of beer on the table, and soon enough, brothers are surrounding our booth, taking up most of the corner of the bar.
