Reyna was in the middle of taking a sip of wine when she paused, her glass in midair. “His hands? Hmm…you’re absolutely right. I’ve never noticed how delectable they are. How…big…”

She stared for a while as if I wasn’t even present. Her eyes lingering on him like she would devour him at any moment. His returning glare wasn’t as kind. The animosity in the air was thick and suffocating. I was simultaneously waiting for someone to break the silence and worried about what might happen when they did.

“Emilie, why don’t you go stand in front of Ladon?” She swirled her wine in the glass, contemplating her next steps.

I felt the unmistakable pull to follow her requests and walked over to the bed where Ladon sat. He broke his angry gaze, only momentarily to flick a glance in my direction, and as I stood between his legs, he finally seemed unnerved.

“Undress her, Ladon.”

My stomach dropped, and I felt lightheaded. I swayed in place and felt Ladon’s fingers wrap around my thighs, holding me steady. When his eyes met mine, there was a silent plea—an urgent request to forgive him for what he was about to do.

I swallowed and gave him a small nod.

My body felt foreign. It was as though I was living a dream—or a nightmare. The things happening around me were real, and yet they seemed…hazy.

“Breathe,” Ladon whispered, as his fingers latched on to the bottom of my shirt, and he gently pulled it up over my chest and then my head. I shook my head once my shirt was gone and my hair fell in loose curls over my shoulders.

He looked like he didn’t know what to do next. To remove my bra and expose my chest. Or unbutton my pants which felt intrusively intimate.

I inhaled sharply as he gently caressed my waist, fingertips dancing along my stomach to rest below my belly button. I clenched my thighs. That reaction was unexpected.

Ladon didn’t notice, though, and he slowly undid my top button, then the second and third. He tugged my pants over my hips and I had to hold his shoulders to keep myself upright.

He tossed them aside and looked into my eyes again. Such sadness there. Such need for assurance. To know that I was alright. That this was alright.

This was so far from alright. But it wasn’t his fault. I gave him another encouraging nod, and he reached up behind me, unhooking the clasp on my bra and I let it fall in front of me.

Gods, I don’t think I’d ever felt so self-conscious. Even in front of a group of strangers. Those people meant nothing. If I ever made it out of Murvort, I’d likely never see them again. Never have to think of them again.

But Ladon…

He was looking at the floor where my discarded bra had fallen, doing his best to give me privacy, even if we both knew it wouldn’t last long.

Reyna had been awfully silent and chose this moment to squawk with glee. Her sinister laugh made me snarl, turning a fraction of my shame into pure hatred. Funneling my humiliation into a thirst for vengeance.

Ladon’s eyes fluttered closed, steeling himself for what he needed to do next. It almost appeared as though he was more nervous than I was. He tentatively reached toward my black panties, slipping his fingers under the band. My breath hitched as he began to slide the thin material down my legs.

He was hardly breathing, staring at my feet as I stepped out of my underwear. Slowly, ever so slowly, his eyes traveled up my body. He licked his lips as he took in the sight of my bare pussy. That movement, that moistening of his lips, made my body tingle. Heat coursed through my veins and an ache I’d never known before settled in my core.

I heard him swallow roughly before continuing his study of my body. He clenched his jaw upon seeing my breasts. I didn’t think he was blinking at all. And neither was I. I was too entranced by his every movement. The little details of how his body reacted to the sight of me. Like the way his pupils dilated. I wondered if mine were too.

If Reyna hadn’t been in the room, I wondered if he would’ve tossed me on the bed and ravaged me. The hunger in his face said he might’ve. But I must’ve been imagining it. He was only doing this because Reyna was forcing him to.

I heard Reyna stand and move closer to the bed. A better position to watch us, I supposed. The mattress sank as she took a seat on the side, swirling that damn glass of wine. I should’ve drunk more to forget what was happening.

“You look so stressed, Emilie. Ladon, why don’t you help her with that?”

Ladon has been fixated on a spot in the corner of the room behind me, but he looked over his shoulder when Reyna spoke. He tilted his head in question, which Reyna was all too happy to answer for him.

“You know…lay her down and please her.”

A small cry slipped past my lips, and I cursed. I’d been so determined not to let her know she was getting to me. Ladon whipped his attention back to me with a raised brow. Gods, it was so difficult to swallow under his gaze.

I took a deep breath and moved so he wouldn’t have to do it for me. I sat next to him and laid back. The blanket made of fur was heavenly against my skin, and I hated to admit it comforted me. I scooted back on the bed, and Ladon moved to kneel beside me.

Reyna huffed. “Gods, you both are so boring. Act like you’ve pleased a woman before, Ladon. I know you have.”

I shot her a distasteful look without hesitation. How dare she throw that in his face? How dare she taunt him with the things she’d made him do? Especially while she was forcing him to do them to me now?
