“Is this really happening?” I asked, sitting up and holding him as tightly as I could without hurting him.

“I know. It feels surreal.” Damiano replied, kissing the top of my head as we both turned our attention back to the screen, just to confirm one more time.

Suddenly, a wave of fear crashed over me.

“What if it happens again?” I whispered, my voice trembling with the weight of my fear. “I can’t - I can’t handle it again.”

Damiano’s expression darkened as he cupped my cheeks again.

“It won’t happen again. It’s going to be different this time. Not once are you going to leave my sight. No one’s ever going to hurt you again. Over my fucking dead body, do you understand?” His words resonated with such fierce protection that it sent a shiver down my spine.

“What if some of them got away and are waiting to finish the job?” I whispered, the fear of reliving the heartbreak of losing another child threatening to overwhelm me. I could feel a panic attack creeping in.

Damiano’s grip on me tightened, and he leaned in, pressing his forehead against mine.

“I won’t let them, Althaia. I promise you because I’ve caught every single one of them. Those involved, and those who knew about it, their friends, their families—I’ll tear them apart, limb from limb. Nothing will stand in my way.”

I twiddled my hands nervously, and Damiano gently took hold of them and pressed a soft kiss on each.

“Tonight, the world will burn for you, my Althaia.” Damiano declared, his eyes ablaze with a fierce determination, burning like a scorching sun.

It was a gaze that exuded intimidation and danger, yet at the same time, a haunting beauty as he vowed that every single one responsible for our suffering would pay. He would go to any lengths to guarantee my safety.

Our safety.

I smiled as his hand gently caressed my stomach, his touch filled with pride and admiration for the life growing inside me.

“I’ll do whatever it takes to protect our baby.” Damiano whispered, his eyes still fixed on my stomach with an enchantment in his gaze as a beautiful smile graced his lips.

A slow exhale escaped me when I noticed the absence of worry in his expression. Instead, there was an aura of absolute invincibility and an unmistakable air of danger that would strike fear into the hearts of anyone who dared to cross our paths.

“My Devil.” I whispered with a soft smile and a playful gleam danced in his eyes.

“And you, my love, are The Devil’s Fire.” He replied, sealing his words with a kiss filled with promises, protectiveness, and an overwhelming love that left me melting in his embrace.

Just as we opened the door to step out into the hallway, Antonio and Giovanni snapped their heads in our direction. Giovanni, who had been pacing, quickly moved to stand in front of me alongside Antonio.

“What took so long? What’s going on? Are you okay?” Giovanni’s questions came out quickly one after the other.

“And you say you don’t care about me.” I teased him lightly. His reaction made it too easy for me to let it slide.

“This is not the time, Althaia! Tell me!” Giovanni almost yelled in frustration.

I glanced at Damiano and then back at them.

“You’re going to be uncles.” I announced with a big smile, still finding it hard to believe my own words.

But then, something unexpected happened that left me completely shocked; Giovanni hugged me.

I was stunned to the point where my eyes went wide, and my jaw dropped. I quickly snapped out of it and wrapped my arms around him as well.

“You really do care about me.” I sniffed, my eyes tearing up, touched by his concern.

“Yes, just shut up about it.” He said, but still hugged me tightly, and I felt his body ease.

Giovanni stepped away and glanced at Damiano, who was giving him a deadly glare.

“Sorry, Boss, I just had to. She’s our Donna.” Giovanni said, giving Damiano a few pats on the shoulder as he looked relieved.
