Page 93 of Trusting Forever

“Are you done?” Ember asked, her fingers splayed in front of her eyes.

“For now,” Sebastian said to her, never taking his eyes off me. “Let’s eat. After dinner, you’re sleeping over at Addy’s house.”

“Oh, that’s right.” Ember tore through the basket, pulling out food and setting it on the blanket.

“If that’s okay with you,” Sebastian said, his hand cupping my cheek.

“It’s more than okay with me.” I loved having Ember around. I wanted her to feel a part of the engagement, too, but I also wanted some time alone with Sebastian. I wanted to feel his love without any distractions.

I knew going forward there would be nights when we couldn’t have this, but I’d relish it when it happened. There might be more kids and disruptions in our future, but we’d weather them together.

We ate dinner, then danced some more. The evening was so beautiful, between the lights on the water and the ones around our cozy seating area; none of us were ready for the night to end.

When the golf cart reappeared, Sebastian didn’t seem to be surprised.

“Come on, Ember. Addy’s been waiting for you.”

Ember hugged Sebastian, and he held her tight to him. “Be good.”

“I’m always good,” she huffed as she moved to hug me. “Love you.”

Tears stung my eyes as I held her tighter. “I love you, too.”

Then Ember climbed into the passenger seat of the golf cart, and Knox took off with a wave and a wink. “You two be good.”

We watched them drive away.

“Please tell me we’re not going to have any more surprise visitors tonight? Your family isn’t going to show up for a surprise engagement party, are they?”

“That’s a good idea,” Sebastian teased, and I smacked his chest.

“I love that you included Ember, but I want to be alone with you tonight.”

Sebastian eased me to my back and hovered over me. “I want that, too. No one else is supposed to show up here. I think they know what’s happening.”

“Oh, yeah, and what’s that?”

“I’m making love to my fiancée, the love of my life, and my best friend.”

“Are you saying that nothing has changed?” I asked him, my heart soaring.

“You’ll always be my best friend. I didn’t think it was possible to love you more, but I do. It’s like we’ve been holding back all these years, afraid of our true potential. And once we unleashed the love, it was all-encompassing.”

“I love that. I love you.”

Sebastian settled his long body over mine, and I relished the weight of him pressing me into the blankets. Despite the cold air, I was warm all over.

He whispered words of endearment as he worshipped me and my body. When he entered me, I gasped at the sensation of him filling me, knowing that I’d have this forever. It wasn’t a fleeting moment. This was our forever.

We hadn’t left anything to chance. We’d gone after what we wanted and gotten something more than we could imagine.

When stars burst beneath my eyelids, I reveled in the feeling of his warm skin against mine. He threw a blanket over us and kissed my temple. “I love you more every second.”

“Me, too.”

I couldn’t imagine a more perfect proposal. There was excitement about the life we’d share, combined with the heat of the moment. There was so much love. I could finally trust in forever.
