Sebastian nodded. “I almost forgot. It’s Sunday Funday, and we got dressed in real clothes.”

“Should we have stayed in pajamas?”

“I guess we’ll find out how Ember feels about that soon,” Sebastian said with a shake of his head.

A few minutes later, Knox knocked on the door and then stepped inside. The guys didn’t seem to lock their doors, which made sense on the farm. The gate was closed when the farm wasn’t open.

Ember flew into Sebastian’s arms. My heart fluttered to see him crouch to her level and pick her up. “I missed you.”

She wrapped her arms around his neck. “I missed you, too.”

“Did you sleep?” he asked, setting her down.

Knox chuckled. “At some point, they fell asleep. But I think we were out before them. There was a lot of giggling. But don’t worry, I slept on the couch so I could keep track of them.”

Sebastian’s brow furrowed. “You kept track of them while you were asleep?”

“They were good. They stayed in the fort and played.”

“You look tired,” Sebastian said to Ember.

Ember rolled her eyes. “It was a sleepover. You’re supposed to stay up all night.”

“Not at your age. Now you’ll be tired and cranky all day.” Sebastian sounded like the father he was.

“No. I won’t,” Ember insisted as she stomped into the living room.

Knox held up his hands, palms facing us. “They had fun, and they did sleep. Just not as much as they would have had they been in their own beds.”

Sebastian shook his head. “I’m not mad at you. I get it. Thanks for taking her.”

“How did everything go last night?” Knox asked, looking at both of us.

A slow smile spread over Sebastian’s face. “It was great. Thanks for your help in getting the ice rink in place.”

“It was an amazing date, and I bet it was no small feat keeping it a secret,” I added.

Knox’s gaze bounced from Sebastian to me. “So, you’re together now?”

Sebastian lowered his voice. “I don’t want Ember to know just yet.”

Knox’s brow furrowed. “You waited all this time to peruse Hanna, only to keep it a secret?”

It felt good to hear Knox acknowledge that Sebastian had liked me for a while.

Sebastian’s shoulders tensed. “Not exactly. You know. Heath and Emmett know about us. I’m sure Mom does, too. I just want to take it slow with Ember.”

Knox’s concerned gaze landed on me.

I had reservations about this plan, but I was willing to give him some time. “It’s up to Sebastian. He’s Ember’s father. I’ll do whatever makes him comfortable.”

Knox’s forehead wrinkled. “We never hid anything from Addy. She was happy when we started dating. I think she was starved for a father figure in her life since hers was absent. But when I came into the picture, it prompted him to do more. Our relationship lifted up everyone around us. I can’t see how it would be different for you and Ember.”

I’d heard that Addy’s father, Gary, moved to Maryland to be closer to Addy and exercise his visitation.

“My situation is different than Gary and Sarah’s. Brandy isn’t around, but she could show up at any time.”

The thought of Ember’s mother sent a chill through my body. She’d been around only a handful of times, and each time, she expected to be the most important person in Sebastian’s and Ember’s lives. I’d kept quiet about the effect on Ember because it wasn’t my place, but I wasn’t sure if I could, going forward. If anything, I was even closer to Ember now, and I didn’t want her mother hurting her.
