I looked up to see one of the douches in question heading my way and my heart kicked up a beat. How was it they all had this effect on me? It really wasn’t fair. Ignoring them would be so much easier if they were ugly fuckers. But nope, each one of them could easily pass as an Instagram model.

Brax dropped down in the seat next to me. I forced myself not to look at him, but it was hopeless. I was drawn to him like a moth to a flame. Judging by his outfit, he’d just returned from the gym. A light sheen of sweat coated his golden skin and his hair was all mussed up. I should have been repelled by the scent of sweaty boy with undertones of citrus, but I most definitely wasn’t.

It had to be pheromones, right? I was pretty sure there had been scientific studies conducted on this very topic. About how women were attracted to the pheromones in a guy’s sweat. There was no other explanation for my sudden desire to crawl over the table and lick his…

“You OK, Stella?” Quinn’s voice broke through my feverish and inappropriate thoughts.”

“Er, what?” The pair of them were staring at me and I flushed red…again.

“I was asking if you had any pizza preference. Brax is placing an order.”

“Yeah, I’m starving. Someone scoffed all the pepperoni.” Brax’s eyes sparkled with mirth.

“Uhm no, I should probably get back.” Fuck, I couldn’t sit here any longer. It was too much. They were too much.

“Hey, it’s OK, don’t leave.” Quinn reached out and grasped my wrist. A zing of electricity zapped me. My eyes shot up. He felt it too, I know he did. He looked at me with surprise for a moment then dropped my wrist.

“I don’t want to interrupt your… whatever,” I mumbled, slamming my laptop shut and looking for my bag.

“You’re not interrupting anything,” Brax smiled breezily. “Besides, I figured we could discuss this assignment seeing as how we’re both in the same place.”

“But you don’t have your laptop or anything?”

“You can make the notes and send them to me later.”

Oh right. He expected me to do all the work.

“I already told you I’m not doing all the fucking work!”

“Hey! Calm down, Angel.” He rolled his eyes and folded his arms across his chest. I tried not to drool at the way his biceps bulged enticingly. The boy was candy for the soul. Too sweet for words. “If you make the notes tonight and then send them to me, I’ll flesh them out and send what I have back to you tomorrow, OK?”

I thought about it and relented a little. “OK, I guess that works.” I wasn’t convinced he’d do it, but for now, I’d give him the benefit of the doubt.

The pizza arrived 40 minutes later. Brax got a notification on his phone and dashed downstairs. I was relieved. The stress of sitting so close to him while he leaned over to read my notes was pushing my heart rate into the red zone. It didn’t help that Quinn’s gaze periodically swept over me too while he tapped away on his keyboard.

The way he chewed his lip when he was thinking was hypnotic. Several times I’d lost my train of thought, much to Brax’s amusement. I was sure he’d worked out I couldn’t stop staring at his hot friend. Or him for that matter.

It annoyed the shit out of me. Anyone would think I’d not had sex in, like, forever. Oh, wait. That was true. I needed to spend a while sorting my shit out later. Maybe then I’d stop behaving like a hormonal teenager.

Once this assignment was over, I’d make a point of steering clear of all three of them. It was the only way I’d survive this hellhole. Speaking of all three of them…

“Hello, little witch.” Harley’s smooth-as-silk voice startled me. “Missed me?”

He sank into the seat Brax had vacated, ignoring his friend’s glare.

“Nope.”

“Ouch. That hurts!”

“Good.”

“Looks like Stella is immune to your charm, Harley.” Quinn snorted with laughter, but Harley wasn’t deterred in the slightest.

“Nah, she’s just playing hard to get.”
