Yuri and Dimitri are already seated at one of the booths in the VIP lounge. They both stand up and nod as I stride over to them and make room for me to slide in.

A pitcher of beer sits in the middle, a bottle of Vodka and a line of empty shots is on their side of the table. Both men sink back down as soon as I’m seated.

I glance at my men, both wear emotionless masks, neither of them saying a word. The tension is like a coiled spring, ready to snap at any moment as Yuri reaches for another shot and downs it.

“Enough.” I slam my fist on the table. “You are not going to be drunk while we deal with this matter. We have a problem and I need the two of you thinking with clear heads.”

Yuri scowls and puts down the empty shot glass. “I don’t know what there is to talk about, I did warn you. That little bitch is going to send us all to prison. You should have seen how happy she was when she arrested me.”

I lunge across the table and grab him by the collar. Fear flashes in his eyes as sweat rolls down his forehead. “Call her a bitch one more time and I will cut out your tongue.”

Dimitri rolls up his sleeves and leans forward. “I think the last thing we should be doing here tonight is making a scene, boss. Especially when you've got a beefed-up police force just waiting for you to fuck up.”

I hate to admit it, but Dimitri is right.

I pay for my presence to go unnoticed in the private clubs, and I should make sure it stays that way.

“What do we know so far?” I shove Yuri back, letting go of his shirt. As I sink back into my seat, the hair on the back of my neck stands up.

I look around the VIP lounge as I pour myself a beer. Several ladies are watching us. Sooner or later, they will wander over to our table and see whom they can get.

Dimitri will probably go home alone, but Yuri is going to be on the prowl and looking for someone to take his mind off everything.

Maybe that's not a bad idea, I could use some release. Someone I don’t care about at all. A face I’ll hardly remember in the morning.

Just a small distraction to ease some of the stress that keeps raging through me.

If it’s not one thing, it’s another.

Right now, it’s a gorgeous undercover agent who can’t seem to make up her mind about whether to kiss me or kill me.

Dimitri clears his throat. “She isn’t telling her colleagues anything. Our friend was able to listen to the interrogation. He said nothing had been spoken against you. She would only say that she was at a party with you and was kidnapped by unknown suspects.”

I nod and take a long drink of beer. “So, she is protecting us for the time being.”

Dimitri snorts. “I don’t think it’s us that she’s protecting. I saw the way she was looking at you the other night.”

She’s protecting me. Why?

She cares for me but keeps denying herself.

Hazel apologized before she jumped out of the car. She looked like she was about to break her own heart.

Fuck knows she was tearing mine from my chest with that little stunt she pulled.

Yuri’s face turns red and the lines on his face deepen. “You have got to be kidding me. I mean no disrespect, but out of all the women that you could have, you chose that little slut. Did you forget what she did to me? How foolish she made the Bratva look?”

I down the rest of the beer before slamming the glass on the table. “Enough! The only one who looked foolish was you! Fucking idiot.”

My voice is loud enough to be heard above the music. Eyes bore into my back and the side of my face as people tried to watch the show. Yuri glowers at me, his eyebrows drawn together, and his mouth contorts into a tight line.

“You should think about what you’re doing with her.” Yuri can’t hold back; the words just spill out of him. “She could bring down the Bratva, but you don’t seem to care. All you're doing is putting the organization in danger because of her.”

“I told you. Enough.” I take out a knife from my pocket and set it on the table. “If you want to keep spewing venom, I will cut off your tongue. That’s my last warning. It all started with you; you should never have come back!”

Yuri takes another shot before getting up and walking away. I keep an eye on his massive frame as he wanders down the stairs and onto the dance floor. Soon, he busies himself with a girl near the DJ booth.

“He’s going to be a problem.” Dimitri pours himself a glass of beer and looks around the club. “And here comes another one.”
