I swept them to the side, sat, and opened one of the pink ones. Sipping my coffee, I chewed and hoped I really was pregnant and not just late. I did a lot of hoping lately, and I hoped it was a girl. I wanted my Ella to have a sister.

By the time I finished my coffee, Barry was through. He exited the sound room.

“What’d you think?” he asked, not even surprised to find me there. He knew wherever he was, I wanted to be.

“I think it’s beautiful. Pretty and poignant like ‘Butterfly,’ but hopeful too.”

He slowly grinned and my heart flipped. “That’s what I was going for.”

“What’s it called?”

“I don’t have a title yet. That’ll come tomorrow when I write the lyrics.”

“Sounds good.” I stood and kissed him. “I’d better get going. I need to pick up supplies for the weekend, and the kids will be coming by Footit’s in the early afternoon to rehearse for their gig tonight.”

“They’re ready.”

“I know that. You know that.” I pursed my lips. “Kyle’s not so sure.”

“Even on his birthday, he demands perfection.”

“Yeah.” I nodded. “He wants them to make it.”

“He reminds me of you.”

“He does me too sometimes,” I said.

“Claire is like you too. She has your heart.”

“No, you do,” I said.

“And you have mine.”

I smiled. Bliss. Barry made every single day bliss. “Are you coming by Footit’s after you close?”

“Absolutely.”

“Then I’ll see you there.” I started to move away, but he grabbed my hand.

“Save a dance for me.”

“All my dances are yours.” He was the only partner I ever wanted.

I slammed the brakes, threw open the door, and the pavement in Footit’s parking lot practically melted beneath my wrath. “Step away from her now, Skellin.”

“I don’t think I will.” The asshole puffed out his chest. Not because he was feeling brave, but because his bodyguard stood beside him.

“You aren’t allowed here.” I made eye contact with Addy.

Wisely, she’d called me when his car had pulled into her lot. The bastard had her trapped against a Rolls Royce.

I shook my head. She wanted to bolt, but Martin was armed, and so was his bodyguard. I didn’t want her to take the risk of any sudden movement.

“I’m allowed wherever I wish to go.” Martin tossed his head, like wearing that stupid expensive suit and selling drugs to kids made him the king of Southside.
