She let out a relieved sigh. "Thank you, Damien. I really appreciate it."

"It should be Aine you're thanking."

"She's not the one doing the work," she pointed out. "You are."

"Let's save the thanks until after we've pulled it off," I said.

"Good idea," Aphrodite responded. "You'll let me know if you need anything, right?"

"Of course." I smiled in what I hoped was a reassuring manner. I was a little worried about whether or not this was going to be possible, but there was also a part of me that didn't want to let her down, even if I wasn't sure precisely what was causing that desire.

"I really appreciate it. Once we're done, maybe we could go for that coffee as a thank you?"

Something squeezed within me at the words. "Sounds good." And it did.

Better than it had any right to.

There was always something nerve-wracking about walking into an event space and seeing it bare when there were only a few hours to go before the party itself. But at the same time, it was kind of invigorating. It was a blank canvas to be filled, with all the potential of makings of a successful event.

I paced around, trying to envisage exactly what was going to go where.

The doors rattled, making me jump. I turned around, already working on my composure.

To my surprise, Damien stepped inside.

"Hey," I said, unable to keep the surprise out of my voice.

"Hi," he responded. "I didn't expect you to be here yet."

"A good hostess is always early," I responded.

"Four hours early for the catering staff?"

"There's a lot to do between now and then," I pointed out. "The room's been cleaned, but that's about it. What are you doing here so early?"

"I called Horus on the number you gave me to see if I could come in and take measurements for the bar and serving stations. From what you said about the room, I think I know what I'm working with, but it's always best to check in person. But you get that." He flashed me a smile that actually made me think he believed it.

"What makes you say that?"

"The fact you're here four hours early and technically you're a consultant not a hostess."

"Good catch. I was actually about to order some lunch, there's a great place about ten minutes away that delivers good Greek food and I hardly ever get to have it. Do you want some?"

"What if I say I don't like Greek food?"

"Then I'd say your taste buds are dead," I responded, pulling out my phone. "Is that a yes?"

To my surprise, he nodded. "If they have spinach pie, I wouldn't mind some."

"They do." I clicked the button to add it to my order along with moussaka for myself. "Now the real question, baklava or orange pie?"

"Is the answer anything but both?"
