“Why? What’s going on?” Skylar asked, trying to peek in the bag, which earned her having the bag snatched from her.

“Way to almost ruin it, Langston,” Zach said, smacking Travis on the chest. “Now, do you see why we don’t tell you things?”

“Ruin what?” Skylar asked.

“Okay, you may have a point,” Travis added with a pout, ignoring Skylar’s question.

“For a cop, you really are a shitty secret keeper,” Brody added.

“Hey, when it comes to the job, I’m a vault. I can’t help it if I get excited about other things. Right, kitten?” Travis asked, shooting a wink at Lila.

“Sorry, babe. I’m with Brody on this one. Especially with Dyllan and Skylar, you seem to have a bad track record.”

“What about Dyllan? Have you talked to him?” Skylar asked, moving in front of Travis.

“I can’t help it if I’m excited Dyllan’s finally met his match. It’s so entertaining!” Travis rubbed his hands together with a smile as he laughed.

Brody groaned and rolled his eyes as he walked to Kade and gave her a kiss.

“Can someone tell me what’s going on, please? Have you talked to Dyllan and what the heck is in these bags?” Skylar asked, pushing up on her tiptoes, trying to see around Zach, who turned and crossed his arms over his chest as he tried to make his most intimidating face.

“Yes, we’ve talked to Dyllan,” Zach answered as he reached into a brown paper bag with grease marks on the bottom.

“And?” Skylar placed her hands on her hips, staring at Zach as he continued pulling box after box out of the bag.

“And we have food.” Zach held up a white take out container with an ’S’ on it, passing it to Skylar. “Sit and eat.”

Stunned and confused, Skylar sat at the table, placing the container in front of her. She looked at her friends, seeing they each had their own, and they were digging into their food. Pushing open the top of hers, she gasped as she looked down at her food. “A mushroom cheeseburger,” she whispered.

“I hope it’s close to the one in the city,” Zach said, placing a pint glass in front of her. “I’ve also never made a Snake Bite before, but it seemed pretty straightforward from what I saw online. If it doesn’t taste right, I blame Brody’s cider because it’s definitely not my stout.”

“Fuck off, Richardson. My cider is great.” Brody glared at Zach as he ate a fry, while he leaned against the counter behind Kade.

“How did you know?” Skylar looked up at him, not knowing what else to say.

“Just enjoy,” Zach said with a wink as he took a seat next to Mandy, stroking her hair with one hand and placing the other on her belly.

Her heart broke at the sight of them. She was so happy for them but at the same time wondered if she’d ever get to experience that. For a brief moment she was able to see what that life would have been like with Dyllan. Together and deeply in love. Maybe a kid or two running around this house. She didn’t care what that life looked like as long as she had her Grumpy Bear by her side. Now she wasn’t sure if she’d ever get that.

“Why hasn’t anyone answered me about talking to Dyllan. Is he still in Ottawa? Is he okay?”

“He’s fine,” Brody said. “Look, Zach and I want to talk to you about something.”

“Oh, yeah?” Skylar asked, intrigued.

“We’ve both been getting lots of requests for weddings at our tasting rooms, and we just don’t have the time to be able to co-ordinate them ourselves,” Zach said.

“We were hoping that maybe you’d be interested in being our on-site wedding planner. We wouldn’t stop you from taking external clients, of course, but we were hoping you would be able to handle all the requests that we get,” Brody added.

“Really?” Skylar didn’t know how to answer that. Since Dyllan had told her that he’d be leaving for the job interview, she’d poured countless hours into researching weddings in the area and the likelihood of her being able to stay in Logan Creek and make an actual attempt at having a life there, regardless of what Dyllan decided. This opportunity just solidified that she would be able to stay, which made her happier than she’d been in a while.

“Yes, really,” Brody said, taking a bite of his burger.

“What do you say, Skylar?” Kade asked with a smile.

“I’d love to. Thank you so much,” Skylar answered, still stunned.

“Good, now eat before your food gets cold,” Zach said with a smile, digging into his own food.
