“Okay, Skylar, why don’t you come with me?” Kade asked, linking her arm through her friend’s. Skylar let her friend drag her away, holding Dyllan’s gaze as she went.

“Come on, bro. Let’s go check in,” Travis said, putting his arm around Dyllan’s shoulders and guiding him towards the lobby.

“What’s his problem? So, I like nice clothes and spent a small fortune on this purse. I earned it. I deserve it. Who is he to place a label on me like that? I work freaking hard to get this.” She stomped her foot, knowing it made her look like the spoiled brat he accused her of being.

“Of course you do,” Kade said, leading Skylar to a bench outside, both taking a seat. “Look, it’s not my place to say this, but I think you need to know. Dyllan was in the army…”

“That explains the whole Alpha-hole vibe,” Skylar interrupted.

“Maybe,” Kade continued. “But recently, one of his army friends died overseas, and he’s really been struggling with that.”

“Oh.” Skylar slunk down in her seat. “Well, now I feel like a jerk.”

“Don’t. You didn’t know, and you did nothing wrong. He’s been completely out of line with how he’s treated you, and honestly, I’ve never seen him act like this toward anyone before. He’s just been in an awful place since Jax died. That day you ran into him in the coffee shop, he was coming back from Vancouver from visiting his friend’s wife and children. He’s been going down every few weeks to check up on them and see if they need help with anything.”

“Well, crap.” She’d gotten Dyllan completely wrong. He wasn’t the self-centred, narrow-minded jerk she’d thought. Well, he was, but there was more to him than she’d originally thought. Even though he’d treated her horribly since they met, she was starting to understand a little of why that might be.

“I’m not saying go easy on him. I think it’s good that he’s met someone that will stand up to him, but just so you don’t write him off completely or Logan Creek. Lila and I love having you in town. We would hate to have you leave because of what’s happening.” Kade leaned over, bumping her shoulder into Skylar’s.

“Well, I’ll be leaving after the wedding, Kade.” Skylar shrugged, looking down at the ground.

“I know. I mean, I know you have a life in Vancouver, but Lila and I were hoping that maybe you’d see how great Logan Creek is and want to stay? There are lots of weddings in the area, especially with all the wineries.” Kade’s smile widened as she spoke. “We are just having such a great time with you, and we miss you.”

“Aw, I miss you guys too.” Skylar leaned over, pulling Kade into a hug. “I’ll think about it. Logan Creek is charming, current mayor excluded.”

Kade laughed. “I’ll take it. Why don’t we get checked in and get this party started!”

“Yes,” Skylar clapped her hands together. “I can’t wait for you to see what Lila and I have put together.”

“That scares me a little, to be honest,” Kade chuckled nervously.

“It’s going to be amazing; I promise.” Skylar gave her friend a reassuring smile as they stood.

Pulling their luggage into the lobby, the rest of the group was waiting for them as they made their way to the counter. Skylar ignored Dyllan’s heated gaze as she walked past him. Her heart had softened toward him, but she refused to let him know. It was already confusing enough that his words warred with how his body reacted toward her. Feeling how hard he was while pressed up against her on the plane, and then his actions in the airport messed with her head and her body. She didn’t know how she could be so repulsed and so turned on by someone at the same time.

The next two days would either be the most fun she’d had in a long time or torture. If she was honest with herself, both scared her.

Skylar smiled as she straightened, smoothing down the front of her navy, one-shoulder, form-fitting dress. She’d bought this dress specifically for the party before she left Vancouver. As soon as she saw the dress in the store window, she knew she had to have it, along with the matching navy stilettos that made her legs look longer and more toned than she ever hoped they could be.

Looking around at the decorated private room in the hotel’s lounge, she smiled at what she’d been able to accomplish in such a short amount of time. She’d been in contact with the restaurant manager for weeks, ensuring everything she needed would be ready for her when she got there. All she needed to do was set it all up. And boy, did the manager deliver.

“Skylar, this is amazing!” the restaurant manager, Robin, said with a chuckle as she walked in. “I’ve seen a lot of bachelorettes here, but I haven’t seen this.”

“Thank you! I’ll admit, the Maid of Honour planned all this, not me, but I’m so happy we were able to make it come together.”

Balloons spelling out ‘Same Dick Forever’ adorned the wall in front of them. Beneath the balloons was a table displaying matching sashes, plastic tiaras, and disco drinking cups complete with penis straws. Pink confetti penises completed the table, as well as on the dining table set for three, covered in various appetizers. While penis-shaped decorations were not the standard for Skylar’s parties, she’d had a giggle at all of Lila’s ideas.

“Thank you so much. You made my life so much easier just putting it all together.”

“Oh, this is nothing,” Robin waved her hand. “I hope you ladies have fun, and let me know if you need anything.”

Skylar thanked her and turned back to her decorations, placing a few more pink and white balloons around the room as Lila and Kade walked in. They were both drop-dead gorgeous, wearing dresses they’d been excited to order online. Kade donned a silver metallic, bishop-sleeved mini dress that shimmered as she walked under the ceiling lights. Lila looked stunning in her burgundy A-line halter lace dress that hugged her body like a glove.

“Oh my gosh! Skylar!” Kade laughed as she saw the balloons.

“That was my idea,” Lila giggled. “You need to celebrate having the same dick forever!”

“And you would know.” Kade bumped her hip into her friend. “I think this should also be your bachelorette too. You didn’t get one when you married Travis.”
