Then something changed.

A crackle sparked through the air as the Gods cursed and held their breath. Night had well and truly fallen in the Valley and a commanding presence was rising gracefully into the air. Ushering in a new era.

The darkness was changing.

Shifting with its thirst for vengeance.

The Chaos was here.

CRASHING A PARTY

Mongrel

Adrenaline buzzed through me as I watched my brothers melt into the building.

Silver stood at my back, his comforting and quiet presence calming something deep inside of me, his inner omega making my wolf want to lay down its life for my lover. I paused for a moment, soaking in the oasis of his presence as the sun’s last rays disappeared beneath the horizon.

From inside the farmhouse came a lusty cry of appreciation. The auction was beginning. My pulse sped up as my body tensed for battle. The gentle ripple of twilight at my back barely had a chance to take hold before the familiar call of the Blood Moon Goddess roared like thunder in my ears. Her time had come.

A commanding, celestial being was rising into the heavens.

Chaos gripped the valley.

Bloodlust morphed into a sexual desire, immediate and all-consuming.

I turned to look at the man behind me and, sure enough, his pupils had blown out wide. Our eyes locked. Regal, pulsating desire pounded my soul. My mate’s gaze shone with the same primal knowledge.

I blinked in lazy admiration. This man was everything I’d ever wanted. Everything I’d ever need.

With a sigh, Silver whimpered. Fists gripping the front of my cut, he pressed his chest into mine as if even a sliver of space between our bodies was too much to bear while we weathered the first surge of the Chaos together.

The Blood Moon Goddess was staking her claim on the valley and all who resided in her domain. With a single command, she ruled our beasts. Brought out our wildest nature and urged us to act. Immediately.

Her call traveled through my body eviscerating all thoughts and obligations like a wildfire. Urging me to claim what was mine and blessing the choice my wolf had made so many moons ago. But I didn’t need a Goddess' magic to know this man was mine. My mate. I wasn’t an idiot, either. I sure as fuck wasn’t going to waste this chance to bond the man I loved to me for all time.

My teeth were already growing sharper as I prepared to claim, to conquer, and—most importantly—to submit my soul into the hands of another.

“Mine,” Silver growled so low that it pulled something inside of me tight.

My fingers itched to sink into the soft blond hair that fell across his brow. I wanted to plunge my tongue between his full pink lips and lose myself in this man. Right fucking now.

But I stopped.

“Mongrel?” he whined as I tore my eyes from his, fisting my hands in my hair and pulling deep at the roots in determination. “Please, mate?”

“Can’t.”

Silver reared back as though I’d struck him. A moan of denial escaped his lips and the breath sawed in and out of his body like he was on the verge of panic attack. I felt it, too. I wanted to clutch my chest and scream like a mad man.

The words were ripping a jagged wound in my soul. There was nothing more I wanted to do—needed to do—than claim my mate. To sink my teeth into his throat and rut him while I showed the entire world my love for this man.

“Not here,” I growled. “Not now.”

Pitiful as it was, it was the best explanation I could offer my lover while I wrestled my beast back from the abyss of giving in to pure instinct. I had a mission. We had a mission. And if we failed, our brothers and those we had sworn to protect would suffer. Too many lives rested in the balance for us to throw away duty for a stolen moment which deserved to be savored later.

For all the Goddess was demanding our immediate supplication, our love was not in question. Only primal gratification. We had waited this long, we could wait a few hours more.

Silver stepped away, the heat of this body leaving mine, and I felt like I was being rent in two. The answering lust in his gaze shuttered as he forced himself to focus on the task at hand. He nodded at me as he swept a hand through his hair in frustration.
