Pride surged for my selfless mate. He knew better than most what our mission meant to the innocents trapped in this hellhole.

“Mongrel?” Silver’s eyes flashed with a familiar mischief and I forced myself to take a steadying breath. I knew that look and whatever my mate was about to say was going to slay me.

“Yeah?” I growled.

“You better fuck me good once this is over.”

“Count on it, pup.” The beast roared and leapt for the surface but I hauled it back with a grunt. “Gotta finish this first. You with me?”

I reached for him, my knuckles lightly grazing the edge of his jaw. His eyes met mine for one perfect moment, the grey only a thin band around the endless black, trying to pull me in. And oh, did I want to fall. So fucking bad.

“Always. We’re not dreaming, are we?” Silver whispered, concern clouding his mercurial eyes like that fog creeping in from the horizon. “This is real, right?”

My heart thumped in my chest. No, not even the Gods could be that cruel.

“No, you’re not dreaming,” I confirmed in a throaty snarl as my wolf howled in glee. “This is real. The pull of the Chaos.”

I knew this magic. I had lived through it—served it—before. But nine long years had passed since I’d last bathed in the Blood Moon’s rays and I’d almost abandoned all hope of it returning. I looked back at Silver, as the soul-deep ache built again in my body, begging for release.

Silver’s eyes filled with unshed tears and his voice was hoarse with want and a little bit of fear, too. Hope can be a terrible thing. “Does this mean...?”

“Yes.” I grabbed him by the back of his neck and brought our foreheads briefly together, offering him solace and fortitude and everything in between. “I told you we were mates, didn’t I? I told you, you were worth it. Every last lick those short-sighted bastards dished out.”

A grin—wild and free and full of true joy—stretched across Silver’s face. I crushed our lips together, chasing that joy and sucking it straight into my greedy soul. All at once, the clubhouse erupted into a vicious battle behind us, forcing me back from my mate with a growl.

Silver gave me a firm nod as our wolves bayed to join our pack in war. After all, under the carnal light of the Chaos, fighting was almost as good as fucking. Almost.

Men spilled out of the building. Fists, skin and fur flying every which way. Showers of blood and sweat soon followed. I glanced into the room through the opening, drinking in the sight of our brothers slaughtering our enemies with ease.

“Looks like we’re winning,” I chuckled.

“Of course we are, beta. We’re the good guys. The wolves of the Blood Moon Goddess,” Silver scoffed and spanked my ass to get me moving. “You’ve got souls to reap and I’m off to light a wee bonfire in their honor.”

I blew out a breath from between my teeth. My wolf and I really didn’t like the idea of our mate wandering around out here alone. Who knew what surprises the Bone Crushers had up their sleeve?

“Don’t suppose I could tempt you with a blowjob to sit this one out?”

Silver grinned and bopped me on the nose. “I’ll take that blowjob but you know me better than that, mate. I have a role to play, same as you.”

I nodded even as my protective wolf rumbled in discontent.

One idiot broke free from the crowd brandishing a knife. Silver grabbed the bloody man as he stumbled closer, eyes fixated on me as the dominant. My mate tore through his throat like it was nothing. I grinned as he winked at me. Never underestimate an omega. They might feel calm and soothing to the wolf, but when provoked they were as vicious as a mother bear.

My mate wiped his hands and pulled his gun from the holster, pointing into the throng. “But we haven’t won yet,” he growled. “Grimm needs you up those stairs.”

He fired off three rounds, clearing my entry and cocked his head expectantly. Instead, I grabbed one of our brothers from out of the melee by the back of the neck, forcing Mace to look me in the eye. “You watch my mate out here, got me?”

“You got it,” the kid saluted me with a bloody knife before wiping it clean on his jeans.

Next, Carbon and a trio of wolves came tumbling out the door. I helped my brother dispose of the trash before dragging him up from the dusty ground by his cut. His wolf—crazy son of a bitch—was right at the surface. I was surprised he’d managed to retain his human form with the Chaos beating down on him. Our Enforcer had more control of his beast than he gave himself credit for.

“Carbon, get back inside.”

“With pleasure, boss,” Carbon snarled, pulling his piece from its holster.

“I ain’t your boss, boy.” I smacked Carbon on the back of the head as I pushed him towards the door. “Mace, you fucking watch my mate. Our omega has a nose for trouble.”

“Love you too, babe.” Silver blew me a cheeky kiss. “Kill them good.”
