I took a step back and placed my palm on his chest. “Talk to me,” I repeated.

Ilias’s eyes lowered, his tongue ran across his bottom lip, and he took a deep breath. As much as I found it sexy and wished his tongue was on me instead, this was different. Ilias looked nervous.

“You’ve given Lucca an advantage with the bullet casing and information you’ve shared.” His eyes lifted. “And it’s time I own up to what I need to do.”

“And you are worried about how I will take it.” I scoffed. “Please, Ilias, you’ve met and seen my worst. What could you possibly do that I would even—”

“Becoming part of the same family that had been hunting you. Becoming one of them.”

My heart staggered. He couldn’t mean New York, no, Miami’s. But they were Cosa Nostra, and if Ilias had been a made man before he met me, things might’ve been different. Because he would’ve known about me.

I tried not to dwell on the thought. I couldn’t continue to live in the past or in a different lifetime that was not now. I had already come to peace with a life with him and the danger it would mean.

Why would I let that change?

“Is it done?” I asked as tears pooled in my eyes.

But they didn’t threaten to fall over my own sadness, they threatened to fall for him. Ilias wouldn’t be in such a position if it wasn’t for me.

“I haven’t spoken to Lucca yet.” He cleared his throat, and his foot twitched to take a step, but stopped before it had the chance.

“I can’t risk being in the dark anymore. It’s not safe, not knowing what’s brewing in the streets, and yet walking among them.” The more he explained, the more his demeanor darkened. “I’ve kept thinking of a way I could make it out of this alive and next to you. I always led to this.” His head shook slightly. “But I have you now, and I need to know if it would change this —us.”

“The Cosa Nostra won’t define you in my eyes, you’ve already done that by who you are.” Unable to stand our distance anymore, I grabbed him by his shirt, bringing him closer to me. My hand slid over his shoulder and to the back of his neck gently while our eyes stayed captivated with one another.

“We all live on borrowed time, Ilias. I choose to spend it with you.”

He took my chin between his fingers, his jaw locked as his gaze fell on my lips before he promised, “I’ll make sure you can treasure every minute.”

My fucking heart swelled. It cartwheeled inside and cheered my body to euphoria. A smile broke from my lips with a chuckle of joy. And now that we were both on the same frequency, I wanted to enjoy us while we had one last day of freedom.

I was going to live today as if it were my last and, in a way, it could be.

And what best way than to spend it wickedly and filled with pleasure.

“Davina…” Ilias’s head leaned to the side, feeling the change of energy.

ILIAS

I’d created a monster.

Davina’s fuck-me eyes shone while she watched me, and my dick quickly reacted. I checked our surroundings, and I hated risking exposing her skin or pleasure ridden face to anyone. It was only for me and my eyes to see.

“Come,” I ordered with my palm stretched for her to take.

She didn’t.

“It’s too far.”

“Davina,” I warned, but her hand gripped my hard dick over my pants. Fuck. Before she had the chance to slide her fingers under my jeans, I picked her up. Her hair swirled with the quick movement, and her throat released a loud shriek.

With her hips and legs wrapped around me, I took a step further into the tree line. With each stride the more painful it became having my cock constricted by the material. Davina’s body wiggled, driving me mad with want.

“Ilias?” I heard my name from a distance.

Recognizing Cesario’s voice, one of the soldiers who guarded this area, I stopped.

“Everything is fine. Head back to your post.” I tried to sound composed but Davina’s smirk made it difficult.
