"A family gathering?"

I sighed and let the word out. "A date. An extraordinary date."

She listened as I listed my expectations, and I paused as she threw in suggestions. By the time the call ended, I was confident Violet would love what I planned for the night.

* * *

The event plannerhad informed me thirty minutes ago that everything was ready. All I had to do now was tell my date that I was taking her out. An uncommon case of the nerves got the better of me, and had me doing breathing exercises outside Violet's door before I worked up the courage to knock.

The door sprang open, and Violet stood in the doorway. I hadn't seen her all day, resisting the urge to smother her with my presence. She'd pulled her hair up, exposing her slender neck. All my willpower evaporated, and I closed the space between us, kissing her lips, then leaning in to lick and suck on her neck.

She gasped and clutched my shoulders. “Is this what you had in mind for the evening?”

"Far from it," I pulled away. Violet's face fell in disappointment, so I added quickly, "We’re going out."

“Oh.” Her brows rose. “Where?”

“Someplace fancy.”

A smile brightened her face.

“How quickly can you get dressed?”

“Very.”

“Good. Get to it.” I smacked her ass as she turned.

“Shawn!” She laughed, skipping away from my touch.

I forced myself to close the door and head to my room. I'd have her to myself all evening.

Violet was done in record time, and I was standing at the bottom of the stairs as she descended. I gulped, staring at her. Her pastel pink dress was both flirty and stylish, perfect for a night out, and ballerina flats covered her feet. She stopped close to me, and I teased back the hair that fell against her cheek.

“You're so beautiful,” I croaked out.

“You too,” she said breathily.

I chuckled, and she smiled back. "Shall we?" I offered my arm.

She slipped hers through mine, and I led us down the elevator to the town car I’d ordered, complete with a chauffeur. I couldn't keep my eyes or hands off Violet throughout the ride. Every part of her felt like a jewel to be treasured.

Just when we locked lips and my hand drifted up to tenderly caress her breast, the car stopped. Violet looked as disappointed as I felt as we got out.

"We have the rest of tonight," I whispered against her ear, and she shivered.

The event planner had booked a table at Verdant, a restaurant that catered to the wealthy but was still unassuming enough to have unpretentious meals. We sat at a private table with flowers and fairy lights decorating it. I pulled out Violet's chair, and she sat, eyes wide and a smile on her face.

"I can't believe you set all this up," she enthused. "And I was going to have leftovers for dinner."

I smiled and leaned forward. “I wanted to do something special for you.”

She blushed and looked down at her hands before looking back up at me. “Thank you, Shawn.”

“No, I should be thanking you for giving me a reason to smile all day.”

Her blush deepened. I eased back, content to gaze at her. A waiter came, took our orders, and soon placed the appetizer before us.

“Any luck job hunting?” I asked.
