“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” I said slowly. “Considering it’s morning.”

“Morning.”

“And we’re leaving today. In fact, I probably shouldn’t have invited you into the shower in the first place.”

His frown deepened and he took the soap. Smoke scrubbed his body, almost violently.

“Why are you angry?” I demanded.

“Because I’m not ready to leave this motel room.”

My eyes widened and I sucked in a breath of air.

“Are you really going to tell me you’re ready to leave?” he asked.

I opened my mouth to reply when the faint sound of the phone ringing distracted me. I hastily got out of the shower, wrapped a towel around me, and went to answer it.

I quickly walked to the nightstand and picked up the phone. “Hello?”

“Hi, this is Vernon at the front desk. I was just calling to let you know the phones are working now.”

“I see.”

“No internet or cable yet, though. Hope you found something to occupy your time during your stay.”

Heat stained my cheeks. “Yeah, we found something to occupy us. Thanks.”

“You like biscuits and gravy?”

His change in conversation topics momentarily threw me for a loop. “Uh—Yes.”

“Then get down to the cafeteria. We’re going to be cooking up a storm. Ha, get it? Storm? You need a hearty breakfast before you get back on the road.”

The door to the bathroom opened and a cloud of steam escaped, followed by Smoke who came out in nothing but a towel.

His skin was damp and glistening and all I could think about was kissing my way down his body.

Our eyes met.

Vernon finished his monologue about breakfast and almost hung up when I blurted out, “Can we book the room for another night?”

“Let me check the bookings.” I held Smoke’s gaze while Vernon clacked on the computer. “Yeah, the room is free. I’ll book you for another night.”

“Thank you,” I said. “We’ll see you for breakfast in a few.”

I set the phone back in its cradle but didn’t move.

“So, you want us to spend another night together,” he murmured.

“Yes.” I swallowed. “We haven’t used all the condoms in the box. It would be a shame if they didn’t get to fulfill their purpose.”

His lips twitched. “You’re worried about condoms not fulfilling their purpose?”

“Will you let me have this one?” I demanded with a glower.

“Yeah, cupcake. I’ll let you have this one.” His mouth curved into a wicked smile.

“You sure you haven’t had your fill of me yet?”
