“He knows it’s a human trafficking site and told me to call the FBI. He doesn’t know this newest stuff with Devon. It all went down before I went to the gym earlier.”

She looked at me, sympathy coloring her features. “I’m really sorry, Parker. I know you were wanting something with her. You really liked her, I could tell.”

“It’s fine, I don’t have time for romantic bullshit right now, anyway. I’m just glad I found out when I did.”

Just then, the police scanner caught our attention. We listened to an announcement about the kidnapping suspects being spotted.

“Crap, let’s go,” I said, grabbing my jacket and phone and heading out to the clubhouse.

“Where’s the fire?” MyAnna asked as Jemini and I rushed out of the hallway.

“Viper, where’s he at?” I asked her.

“Cobalt,” she replied, pointing toward the walkway.

“Thanks.” We rushed into the crowded club and found him sitting at the bar talking to Ally.

I leaned in to speak into his ear over the noise. “Boss, the men who kidnapped those two girls were spotted on the east bank. NOPD is on their way. What do you wanna do?”

“You and I will head down there alone. Too many bikes will draw their attention.”

“We could take the van?” I suggested.

He nodded. “Good idea. Grab Phoenix too, then. Let’s go.”

After parking in a nearby lot, the three of us piled out of the van and walked slowly toward the flashing blue and red lights at the edge of the river. There were three police cars, and uniformed officers milled around. Two men wearing all black were cuffed with their hands behind their back, sitting on a nearby curb.

I pulled out my phone and brought up the anonymous text we’d received last week, along with the photo. It was hard to see but they looked very similar to the two suspects in handcuffs. “They’re not vampires, are they?” I asked the other two.

Viper stared at the scene. “Hard to say from here. They could easily break those cuffs and blitz out of there if they were. Not to mention, they would have never let the police catch them. So, I’m gonna say no.”

“I wonder why the tipster said they were vamps?” I wondered aloud.

“Because I knew you wouldn’t respond if you thought it was just a human problem.”

We whirled around to see Devon standing there, her hands in the pockets of her hoodie.

“Hello, Rocky,” Phoenix said.

“How ya doin’, big red?” She smirked.

He chuckled. “Like I haven’t heard that before.”

“You texted in that tip?” Viper asked, narrowing his eyes.

They were being too nice to her, but they didn’t know what I knew.

“Why don’t you tell them how we got all that fucking malware on our computer, Devon?” I seethed.

“Devon?” Viper asked.

She ignored me and looked at Vane. “Yes, that’s my real name. I use Rocky as an alias for jobs.”

“Why would you trick us into responding to a human problem?” I asked.

“Because you guys are the best. The FBI would have taken too long.” She shrugged.

“If they’re human, why the hell didn’t you just stop them?” Viper asked. “You’re a vampire, you could take them.”
