“Well, I won’t offer congratulations yet, but just promise me you’ll act surprised if he pops the question. He’s a little sensitive, I think. He’d get his feelings hurt if he thought you were expecting it.”

“Don’t you worry your pretty little head about that. I’ve got mad acting skills.”

Laughing, I asked, “Did you tell Jermaine?”

“No. I literally just found out and you were the first person I ran into, so I had to tell someone.”

“Why were you looking at browser history, anyway?” I asked, typing my password into my own computer to get started on my work night.

“Because I’m nosy,” she replied.

“You need a hobby,” I grumbled.

She placed a hand on my arm, and I looked up into her light-colored eyes. “Seriously, Parker. What’s wrong? You’ve got this… this dark aura around you.” She made a circle with her finger around my face.

“You can see auras now?” I asked, lifting an eyebrow.

“I’ve always been able to, but I didn’t know what they were. Bloome’s helping me.”

I shook my head. I thought it was silly, but I wasn’t a witch so what did I know?

“Just tell me. I’m a good listener,” she plead.

“Turns out Devon’s been keeping a secret from us,” I spit out reluctantly. I hated talking about my feelings.

She furrowed her brow. “Who’s Devon?”

“Sorry, Rocky. Devon’s her real name.”

“How did you find that out?” she asked.

I smirked. “Because I’m nosy.”

“Okay… but what secret has she been keeping?”

“The malware, the spyware… we got infected because of her.”

Jemini stood up and put her hands on her hips. “What the hell? She planted it?”

I cleared my throat and pulled up the Dark Web website. “Yes and no. Turns out she works for the pieces of shit who run this site.” I turned the monitor around to show her the human trafficking page.

“That’s how she was so easily able to get the malware removed from our system. Damn, that sucks. I thought she could be trusted. How did you get it out of her?”

“I told her we were calling the FBI. Then she panicked and told me not to call them. Like all-caps screaming texted me. So I called her. She eventually answered and confessed that she was responsible for the malware, and that—get this—the site is run by vamps. She gets paid by them for this crap.”

“How could she, or heck, anyone, knowingly assist human traffickers?” She shook her head. “There are some sick people in this world.”

“She claims she was told it was a buy-sell website for illegal items. Didn’t know that meant human children. Look at this sick shit.” I clicked on a listing titled Chocolate, Vanilla & Brown Sugar – Why Choose? Three kids, most likely under ten, of different races, were sitting in chairs wearing only underwear. Their faces were cut out of the photo and there were prices for each one, and a discounted price for all three, listed in the caption.

“Oh, my God.” Jemini put her hand over her mouth, her eyes filled with tears. I hadn’t shown her anything up until now because I didn’t want anyone else having to try to unsee this trash. “That’s horrible. We have to shut this site down now! Can’t you give it a big, fat, ugly virus?”

“We can’t shut it down.” I sighed. “We have to leave it up so the authorities can see it.”

“But they’re vampires, Rocky said. You can’t call the FBI,” she replied, staring at the screen.

I closed the site and said, “BSI. They’ll have to take care of it somehow. I hope they have good computer people working for them. I’ve already documented as much as I could and was going to finish tonight. I wish I knew a way to keep the site up but keep people from visiting it.”

“There is a way, but you’d have to be the one who built the site, or at least have admin access to do it.” She blew out a breath. “Does Viper know?”
