She was right, and if I had my way, Dylan and I would be burning up the sheets, but I wasn’t sure that complicating our relationship would be good for either one of us.

He’d come a long way since he’d started treatment, but some of his issues were going to linger. Dylan needed time just to live a normal life again.

Now that I knew our attraction went both ways, it was really going to be hard to try to ignore it, but I had to try.

“How do you do it, Nic? How do you love a man as rich and powerful as Damian? And I won’t even mention that he just so happens to be a duke, too.”

“Because at the end of the day,” Nicole said thoughtfully. “Damian is just a man. Granted, he’s an extraordinary guy who has a hell of a lot of money, but he’s never seen himself as superior to any other guy walking around London just because of his wealth and social status. And he’d give away the dukedom if he could get away with it. Don’t get me wrong, I was overwhelmed in the beginning, but none of those other things matter if you have the right guy.”

“I suppose,” I said, still unconvinced. “But I’m still prepared to be intimidated when I get to England.”

“You won’t be,” she insisted. “You’ll love Damian’s mother, Bella, and his brother Leo. And you obviously aren’t intimidated by Dylan, even though he’s just as rich and just as powerful as Damian.”

“He’s not a duke,” I reminded her jokingly.

“No, but he’s still Lord Dylan Lancaster. He’s the son of a duke,” she told me.

I groaned. “Oh, God. He never told me that.”

“He doesn’t use that title unless he’s at formal events where he can’t avoid it. Just like Leo doesn’t use his, and Damian avoids his title as often as possible.”

“I have no idea how to address any of the people coming to your wedding,” I said, feeling a little panicked.

Nic laughed. “You don’t need to know any of that stuff. If someone is stuffy enough to introduce themselves with their title, you’ll know what to call them. It’s a wedding, Kylie, and titles aren’t important to this bride and groom.”

“It’s a good thing you aren’t,” I joked. “I’m not versed on the British aristocracy.”

“No worries,” Nic said. “I can’t wait until you get here. This party won’t get started until you and Macy are here in person.”

“Is there anything else I can do to help?”

“Everything is under control. You two have been a big help, even from across the pond. Now all I want is to share the experience with you guys. I miss you both,” Nic said. “I’m not surprised by what you’re doing for Dylan, but I’m more grateful than you’ll ever know.”

“I can’t make him attend the wedding, but I’ll do my best,” I promised.

“Something tells me just the fact that you’ll be leaving him in two weeks if he doesn’t come might be a big motivator,” she said playfully.

“Honestly, I think I’d miss him, too. I’ve gotten used to having some intelligent company. No offense intended to Jake, of course, but it’s kind of nice to have a companion that actually speaks,” I confided.

“Especially when that friend is incredibly hot and outrageously handsome,” she quipped.

“That part isn’t always comfortable,” I muttered.

“Just have fun,” Nic advised. “You’re going to be hanging out in a home that we could have only dreamed about staying in just a few months ago. God, I’m almost jealous because I only got an hour or so there.”

“Please. You’ve told me about Damian’s high-tech mansion.”

“It’s amazing,” she agreed. “But it isn’t waterfront.”

“I feel kind of bad because I’m not in the office every day,” I said.

Nic snorted. “You’re a partner. You can do whatever you want, and please don’t tell me you haven’t been working every day.”

“I have,” I assured her. “Video conferencing mostly, and the home office I made for myself works fine. But you were the owner, and you were always there.”

“Because I needed to learn the business from the ground up,” she reminded me. “You don’t need that experience, Kylie. You can run the business from any location.”

“I’ll be there more after the wedding,” I informed her. “There won’t be any reason not to be in the office once I’m back in my apartment.”
