Aldric slapped the back of his hand against Elton’s chest and shot him a glare.

“Clary doesn’t need the money,” Seth said with a heavy sigh, then looked over at Oliver. “The board was thinking about selling the robotics arm of Movement.”

“What?” Oliver’s eyes bugged. “What about my research?” He scratched his head and looked over at Clary. “It’s okay,” he quickly added. “I can start over. Just return the money.”

Clary wanted to give Oliver a big hug and a kiss.

Not because he’d been the nicest to her, but because of how he always threw his support behind Seth.

“Not going to happen,” she said to Grandma Moretti. “Did Mr. E suggest this? Or is it wholly your idea?”

“It’s my idea, but do you think Edward will be against it?”

Of course not. Grandma Moretti had made it clear to Mr. E that Clary was under her care, so she had the right to make the final decision for Clary.

Clary pinched the bridge of her nose.

“Just return the money,” Oliver said. “You started Movement. You can rebuild it.”

“And your research?” Seth asked. “Once robotics is sold, everything you’ve ever researched, all your results and findings, will belong to the new owner. Your studies have been used to develop applications and devices, but …”

“It’s not bringing in money. I know.”

“You won’t be allowed to continue.”

Oliver nodded solemnly. “I know. I don’t care.”

Aldric pulled out a chair at the other end of the table. “Just do it here. There’s a spare room upstairs. What do you need?” he asked Oliver. “I’ll buy whatever you need.”

Seth rolled his eyes. “It isn’t just about the money. He wouldn’t be able to study volunteers. He—”

Aldric threw his arms in the air. “Who cares about the volunteers?” He looked over at Oliver. “You just need to fix yourself, right?”

That piqued Grandma Moretti’s interest. “What do you have to fix?”

“That’s personal,” Zane answered before Oliver could. “Nothing for you to worry about.” His gaze made a quick sweep across his brothers. “We’ll continue this discussion another time.”

Grandma Moretti nodded. “I’ve said what I want to say. You can discuss it among yourselves.” She put her hands on the table and pushed herself up. “I have to say, I’m disappointed that you can’t even give me a decision right now.”

“You’re being ridiculous,” Clary grumbled.

Grandma Moretti sat back down, but this time she sat facing Clary. She clasped her hands on her lap and stared at her.

Clary stared right back. She was too angry to say anything that wouldn’t hurt their relationship, but she wasn’t going to back down completely either.

“If he can’t even give up—”

“Why does he have to give up anything?”

Grandma Moretti’s brows drew together. “You should be his priority, shouldn’t you? If he cares for you, what is a business deal?”

“Isn’t it unfair that you expect him to give things up for me? I care for him too. I don’t want him to give up anything.”

Her nonna nodded again. “It is unfair that he has to give something up while you don’t.” She stood. “Very well. You can choose too. Him, or me.”

“Nonna.”

Grandma Moretti walked over to the couch and grabbed her bag. “I’ll call a cab. I’m staying at the Bay mansion.”
