“Are you upset that I went off on Aldric?”

He laughed. “No. Not at all.”

“Clary!”

Their heads swiveled toward the new voice to find Andrea at the end of the hallway.

“I’m sorry, but this is important.” Andrea waved the phone in her hand. “Have you heard? The body in the morgue—”

“Isn’t Gavin Ressler,” Seth said.

“Oh.” Andrea stopped mid-stride. “Of course you already know.” She pounded the base of her palm against her head.

“Want some aspirin?” Seth asked.

Andrea turned, shaking her head. “I’ll deal.” Then she plodded back toward the stairs.

Gavin. Gavin. “So the body in the car. Was it a set-up? How did he get someone to wear what he was wearing?”

“Maybe he tricked someone. Detective Woznick says he’s smart.”

“And charming. You’d never think he could hurt anyone.”

“That’s the most dangerous kind of monster.”

Clary sighed. “I’m going to take a bath, then go downstairs and see if the tree really looks as bad as I remember.”

“It does.”

Seth was about to check in on Oliver when he received a call from Edward Eolenfeld. He kept the vibrating phone in his hand and jogged up to Oliver’s bedroom.

Then he froze—just for a second.

Seth stared at the empty, unmade bed.

He cursed, then ran down the stairs. All his brothers had cleared out of his apartment. “Where’s Oliver?” he asked Andrea, who was snapping a photo of the Christmas tree.

Andrea lowered her phone. “He and Zane went to get breakfast.”

Seth sighed.

“You look as if you’re worried Oliver ran away from home.”

That couldn’t be further from what Seth was worried about. He should have paid more attention to Oliver last night.

His youngest brother had been the first to pass out, since he rarely drank. Alcohol wasn’t good for someone who had trouble sleeping.

But Seth didn’t want to put a damper on the mood. Oliver deserved to let loose and have some fun instead of having his sleepwalking issue hover over him all the time.

“He looked pretty groggy, but Zane insisted that Oliver go with him.”

Seth’s phone rang again, and he ran his hand through his hair. “I’m sorry. I need to take this.”

Andrea waved him off, then went back to stretch out on the couch.

“Seth Anderson,” he said as he made his way back to his room.
