Clary sighed softly. “I don’t want him to miss dinner,” she said. “He had fun that night we fixed up the tree, right?”

Seth gave Clary’s hand a tug. “I’ll talk to him.”

“Zane already did,” Oliver said.

Seth’s eyes narrowed.

“Fine. You can take care of that too.” She peered over her shoulder. “Hopefully, if the presents get here on time, I’ll be bringing them home tonight.” She turned to Oliver. “No opening of presents until Christmas morning.”

Oliver grinned. “We get presents too?”

“Of course.”

Seth glanced at his phone when it buzzed. He leaned forward when he realized it was the doorbell. Could his assistant be sending things over already?

He grabbed the phone and tapped into the doorbell application. “Hugh’s back.”

Clary bent to get a better look. “What’s he wearing?”

“A sweater,” Oliver said. “Maybe he got robbed.”

Clary rolled her eyes. “I’ll go—”

“I’ll go.” Oliver was already on the way to the door. “I’m on my way to work anyway.”

Seth stared at the stream from the doorbell.

“He looks so weird in that sweater,” Clary said. “It’s like three sizes too big.”

Seth zoomed in. “He’s sweating like crazy. It can’t be that warm outside.”

Clary went around and plopped onto the couch before leaning over to get a better view.

Seth was right. Hugh was sweating buckets. The weather was getting colder by the day, so … “Could he be on drugs? I’ve seen people sweating when they take heroin or cocaine.”

“Does he take drugs?”

“I don’t know. A lot of the Eolenfelds do.” She came around the couch. “Mr. E got so fed up with hearing about Eolenfelds acting crazy because of drugs that he made it clear that whoever got involved in drugs would get cut off.”

“Would Hugh risk that?”

“Plenty of them did,” Clary said and sighed softly. “Should we have him over for Christmas? Or should I just send him to Mr. E and let him deal with Hugh?”

“Edward and Grandma Moretti are flying out later today.”

“What?”

“They didn’t tell you?”

“No. They told you?”

He nodded.

“And you didn’t tell me?”

“You already knew where they were and that I had your present from Grandma Moretti. I assumed you knew.”
