Page 93 of It Ends With A Yes

“Colin didn’t hear or see anything.” Uncle David took out his phone. “Let me see if I can find him. Maybe he could shed some light.”

“If her evidence is in the form of a witness …” Clary rubbed her fingers against her forehead. “Or if Colin captured a video …”

Uncle David pocketed his phone after sending another text.

“Now we wait again?”

“Yes,” he answered.

“The brothers were going to speak with the officers,” Andrea said. “No updates yet.” She dropped her hand. “What were you going to ask the officers?”

“Uncle David said Holly left when the police got here. I wanted to know if they checked her car. I wanted to find out if there was anyway for her to move a body, especially since there’s no body in the well.”

“Okay.” Andrea turned her attention to the phone again. “Are you going to ask?”

Clary sucked in a breath through her mouth.

“He seems distraught.”

Uncle David tutted behind her.

Clary blew out a breath. “Was he angry?”

“Very.”

Clary winced.

“Not with you, though. He thought Elton said something to chase you away.” Andrea shrugged. “But the brothers seemed to have worked things out when I last saw them.”

“And Oliver?”

“I didn’t see him, but I heard Zane cuffed him to the bed.” Andrea pocketed her phone. “He’s worried Oliver will march into a police station and confess to killing Winnie.” She helped Uncle David zip up the equipment bag. “You know, even if we eliminate the possibilities, we won’t get the answer.”

“But if we can do that, if we can prove that she’s lying, then we can call her bluff.”

“Why didn’t you do that right from the start?”

“Because I didn’t want Oliver to think he murdered someone, but now that he does, it’s the only way. I don’t think Oliver can live with himself otherwise.”

Uncle David dusted his hands off as he stood. “So does that mean I’m taking you home?”

“I can’t.”

He sighed heavily again. “Why not?”

“I want to be sure.”

“You don’t dare to face Seth,” Andrea said. “Trust me. Whatever you said to him, he’s already forgiven you.”

“I just left him a note.”

“You should burn that.” Uncle David grabbed the bag. “In case he uses it to guilt-trip you in the future. Never leave evidence behind for your spouse.”

“He’s been divorced three times.” Clary headed toward the car. “I used to think it was because he worked too much. I guess I was wrong.”

“Clary Fiore, you know I’m doing you a favor.”

“I love you.”
