“You’ve really thought this through.”

“Not exactly. I haven’t decided on where.”

“You could do it in your office.”

Clary’s eyes narrowed. “Are you going to hack into the bots you sent over so you can see what’s going on?”

“I could probably make that happen. The IT team seems to like you. I’m sure they’ll work hard to make it happen if I tell them it’s to keep you safe.”

Clary stopped outside her room. “I’ll ask Andrea to decide on the location. She has more experience with such things.”

“Zane would probably have some ideas too.”

“Probably.” She stared back at Seth without a word.

“But I think Andrea will know just the right place.”

Clary smiled. She leaned forward and gave him a peck on the cheek. “Thank you.”

CHAPTER 14

After last night’s dinner, everyone had decided they each wanted their own bug assault rifle toy. It turned out that Clary was the only non-competitive person living under that roof.

Andrea came out on top in their shooting game. Zane was a close second. Clary was all the way at the bottom. Elton was slightly better than she was. Aldric and Seth both claimed they were third, but she honestly didn’t bother to keep track of the score.

Then everyone was asking her where she got the toy, and they all wanted one.

So that was what she was doing: ordering more toy guns while Andrea drove her over to the chosen location to meet Seth.

“Did you get one for me?” Andrea asked when she saw what Clary was doing.

“Yes,” she said in a bored tone. “Why wasn’t anyone talking about the meat? That was the tenderest beef I’ve ever had.” She drew in a breath through her nose. “I need to ask Aldric for his butcher’s contact info.”

“It was good, but I think I ate too much.” Andrea shuddered. “I don’t even want to think about it. I think I’ll go vegan for the next two weeks.”

“I bet you can’t last two days.”

Andrea pulled the car to a stop. “There are things you aren’t telling me, right?”

Clary’s brows rose.

“Regarding Pete Laker.”

Clary licked her lips.

“Is this related to what you couldn’t tell me about the Andersons?”

She nodded, and Andrea shrugged.

“That’s it?” Clary asked.

“I’m bound to find out sooner or later.”

Clary rubbed her hands together. “There was a time when Mr. E … didn’t care so much about gray areas.”

“I’m not a detective anymore, but I have personal principles I won’t violate.”

“And I’ll never expect you to do so.”
