Clary shot him a glare. “He did not.”

“Then why are we not drinking?”

Clary stopped and turned to him. “Are you afraid you won’t be as much fun without the wine?”

Aldric reeled back again and pressed a hand to his chest. “I’m a hundred times more fun than all of you old folks combined.”

Clary nodded once. “Then stop whining about it.”

“You’re grumpy when you’re hungry.”

Zane and Elton stood with their arms over their chests.

“Why aren’t you cooking?” Clary asked.

“Because Aldric says he wants to give you presentation on the meat before we’re allowed to cook it.”

Clary rolled her eyes.

“I’m living with savages,” Aldric said.

“Don’t be upset.” Clary drew in a deep breath, then flashed a wide smile. “Start your presentation.”

“Say please.”

Clary closed her eyes. “Do you want me to beat you up? I’m pretty sure Zane and Elton are ready to join in.”

“This is wagyu beef. We drove over an hour to get this from my guy.”

Seth swiveled around in his chair. “Does that mean you always buy good steaks for yourself and you never shared?”

Oliver snapped his fingers. “I told you guys his room smelled like steak. You all thought I was crazy.”

Elton nodded. “He was definitely on close terms with that butcher. The store wasn’t even supposed to be open.”

Aldric gave Clary a light shove toward the table. “Go sit down. See what happens when you come home late.” He pointed at Zane and Elton. “Start cooking. Everyone’s grumpy.”

Clary chuckled and headed back to the table. She took out her phone when it buzzed. A reply from Emily. While Seth was speaking to the IT team, Clary had sent Emily Bennett a text message, asking her about Glen Morey.

She wasn’t interested in dealing with the media right now, but she would eventually have to, and she did not know who she could trust.

So she’d dropped Emily a text.

He’s mostly fair, but he’s not afraid to get his hands dirty to get what he wants.

That sounded ominous.

“Pete?” Seth asked.

Clary shook her head and handed her phone over. Seth returned the phone to her when a second message came in.

Be careful if you’re dealing with him. But if you’re looking for someone you can trust, I can send someone your way.

Clary replied with a thumbs-up emoji, then added, But not right now. I’ll let you know when I’m ready. She put her phone back into her bag. “I’m going to go change clothes.”

Seth got up and followed her back into the house. “Do you think whoever Emily is sending along will be as good an investigative journalist as she is?”

“I’m not sure.” She peeled off her jacket.
