Page 35 of It Ends With A Yes

Seth shrugged. “I didn’t ask.”

Clary drummed her fingers on the wooden table.

“I seriously doubt you’ll see the money until they die, so they won’t have to deal with you.” Seth took her hand, stopping her fingers’ plotting dance.

Clary had to laugh at that.

She dropped her gaze to their hands as Seth brushed his thumb across her knuckles. “Would you expect me to sign a prenup?”

“Of course not.”

“What if your brothers insisted?”

“They won’t.”

She arched a brow. “Even Elton?”

“I wouldn’t agree to it.” He tightened his grip on her hand. “I would take the chance to make things right with you rather than walk away.”

“It’s easy to say that now. I think we’ll have to revisit this when you’re mad at me. Grandma Moretti says it’s about choosing to love the person even when you feel like murdering him.” She paused. “Or in your case, her.”

“You.” He ran his thumb across her knuckles again and for a long time just stared at their hands.

“What’s going on in your head?”

“Since we’re talking about this, does that mean you’re considering that we …” He hesitated.

“That we are going to get married?”

He hesitated again before nodding.

“I don’t think I’ve actually thought about it,” she said. It was way too soon.

Just over two weeks ago, she’d thought for sure that she would return to New York and her old job at Safe Homes soon. She’d thought nothing could make her change her mind about that.

But now …

“Oh.”

“You have?”

Seth’s chest rose. “If you say yes, I’ll marry you in a heartbeat.”

“You haven’t seen how whiny I get when I’m sick or how insanely stubborn I can be.”

“The fact that one of the richest men in the world doesn’t really want to deal with letting you know his wife left you an inheritance has clued me in on the second part.” He tucked her hair behind her ear. “I’m not pressuring you to say yes to me. I won’t ever do that to you. I just want to let you know I can’t imagine my life without you.”

If it were anyone else, she probably would have rolled her eyes.

But how could she when it was Seth?

How could she when this man had stayed with her despite the danger? He didn’t even try to persuade her to just let Hugh Eolenfeld die.

“And we digress,” Seth continued. “Besides the impression Holly gave me about Edward, I could see that he genuinely cares about you.”

He said something else, but Clary didn’t catch it.

She was too distracted by how sweet he was to change the subject to give her an out.
