I blink several times, shaking my head. “What?”

“You just spaced. Looked like whatever you were thinking about was spicy. You were practically drooling.”

My cheeks heat, and my nose scrunches. Oh, how fast my mind slips down to the gutter.

Aiden has a way of pulling that out of me. My inner vixen begs to be unleashed.

But that can’t happen. He’s made that clear.

“Oh my God. I was not.”

She smirks. “You were totally drooling.”

Molly throws her head back and laughs. “Not that I can blame you. The relationship that you and Aiden have is drool-worthy. I hope I’ll find a guy who makes me look like that one day.”

If only she knew the truth.

Fairy tales aren’t real, and believing they are will only set a girl up for disappointment.

“Molly, girl, you’re up.” A woman with long black hair enters the room, smiling widely at Molly.

“Hey, Janine. Any chance we could switch things up today?”

The woman tilts her head to the side. “What did you have in mind?”

Molly turns to me and grins. “This is my friend Cassidy, and she needs the works today.”

Janine bites her lip, walking in a circle around me. “What were you thinking?”

She doesn’t address me, continuing to have a conversation with Molly. It doesn’t bother me. I’m enjoying the break from decision-making.

“Some dimension with her color?”

Janine picks up a brush from the counter. “I think you’re right. Okay, Cassidy, you’re up.”

I’ve been staring at my reflection in the hotel mirror of the massive suite he got me to get ready in for for the past ten minutes.

The transformation is a bit of a shock.

Every imperfection I’ve ever fussed over is absent. Not because it’s been covered by makeup or hidden underneath well-placed hair. Janine and her crew have an uncanny ability to highlight every one of my best features, making the flaws disappear.

My eyes pop with the colors used to line my eyelids, making them look uniformed and bright. My lips are full and pouty. Something I didn’t even know was possible. My cheeks are the perfect shade of pink, and my eyebrows are impeccably sculpted and filled in, just enough that they stand out more than usual.

But it doesn’t stop there. My eyes travel down my body, marveling at the dress. The beautiful gown Lydia chose highlights my hourglass figure, unlike any other dress I’ve ever worn. It hugs every curve of my body, accentuating my breasts and waist. The sapphire hue complements my skin tone and brings out the color of my eyes even more.

I twist just enough to see the open back that scoops right above my butt. I gulp. I don’t know why, but I’m so nervous.

What will Aiden think?

Did I overdo it?

Will he think I’m trying too hard?

Or will he feel the way I do? Caught up in the whirlwind that has always been Aiden and me. Whether he knows it’s me or not.

I’m still the same girl, transfixed by the boy who continuously finds ways to save me.

My eyes water, and I quickly lift my hands, fanning my face, to stop the tears from falling. I refuse to let the hours of work that went into this go to waste. My inner turmoil surrounding Aiden will have to wait. Tonight, I need to continue to dupe the whole world in more ways than one.
