With new friends like this, I wasn’t concerned at all about dead squirrels. At least not anymore.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Dorothy

All the girls, plus Jet, Jinx, Six-Gun, and Playboy, had walked over to Rocco’s house. I had been telling them how beautiful his house was, and they all had insisted they needed to see it. The good thing about living in Jackson was that you could get from one side to the other by walking in less than twenty minutes.

“I would feel like a rich Victorian woman if I lived here,” Mitzy sighed as she trailed her fingers over the ornate porch railing.

“I would get lost,” Memphis laughed, her infectious laughter echoing around us. “I would probably close the doors to half of the rooms just because I don’t want to keep cleaning them, too.”

Rayna nodded in agreement, her lips quirked into a playful smile. “Now that just seems smart to me. If the door is shut, nothing for me to worry about.”

We had gathered on the large wrap-around porch after the tour of the house, and I couldn’t help but feel giddy by the fact all the girls were here. The afternoon sun bathed us in its warm glow, casting a soft light over the idyllic scene before us. Raelynn and Prudence were already inside, bustling about in the kitchen as they prepared the third round of drinks. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic options were on offer because, with half of us either pregnant or nursing, we needed options.

Sure, it was barely one in the afternoon, but it seemed that time was of little consequence when you were with the ol’ ladies of the RBMC. It was always a good time for a good time, and today was no exception.

“What are we doing for dinner?” Memphis asked.

“We could grill out and have a girls’ night,” I suggested.

“Girls’ night with all the guys?” Imogen laughed. “So it will be like any other night.”

“Hey, what are you doing on my porch?”

I spun around at the sound of the voice, my heart leaping with joy at the sight of Rocco and the rest of the guys. They climbed the steps of the porch.

Rocco came straight over to me, a warm smile spreading across his face as he wrapped me up in his arms. I melted into his embrace, feeling a rush of affection wash over me as he pressed a quick kiss to my lips. I wished it could have lasted longer, but I knew we had company.

“I hope it’s okay that I brought the girls over to see your house,” I said, feeling a twinge of uncertainty.

Rocco nodded, his expression relaxed. “You’re all good, babe. I’m glad you’re here.”

“And I also offered to have a cookout here and girls’ night,” I added, feeling a hint of guilt for extending the invitation without asking him first. “With all of the guys, too, so pretty much a party with the club.” As the words left my lips, I realized that perhaps I should have run the idea by Rocco. Whoops.

Rocco’s eyebrows shot up in surprise, but to my relief, he didn’t seem upset. Instead, he chuckled softly. “You been drinking, babe?” he asked, his tone gentle as he studied my slightly flushed cheeks.

I held up my thumb and pointer finger an inch apart, a sheepish grin spread across my face. “Might have had a couple of mojitos.”

Rocco chuckled and pressed a tender kiss to the side of my head as he held me close. “Whatever makes you happy, babe. You know I’m always up for a good time.”

It was good that Rocco was back because I missed him, but now that he was here, all I wanted to do was run upstairs and lock ourselves away for the rest of the afternoon. But we couldn’t do that. The club was here, and it wouldn’t be fair to disappear without a word. That was, of course, my own doing, but whatever. I guess this would be good for us to practice our restraint from ripping each other’s clothes off.

So, instead, we spent the rest of the afternoon on the porch, surrounded by the familiar faces of the club. Rocco and I didn’t stray far from each other, finding comfort in the simple act of being close. It was enough for now, just knowing that he was beside me.

As the afternoon stretched into evening, the guys took charge of the grill in the backyard, leaving Imogen and me alone on the porch while the rest of the girls busied themselves inside, preparing dinner.

“You’re happy,” Imogen observed, her gaze soft as she studied me.

I took a sip of my drink, unable to contain the smile that tugged at my lips. “Is it that obvious?” I asked.

Imogen laughed, the sound light. “Um, yeah. I don’t think I have ever seen you smile so much.”

I chuckled softly, feeling a surge of warmth at her words. “I guess I never had someone like Rocco to smile about before. I still think back on that first day we met, and I can’t believe not even a month later I’m shacking up with him. Life is crazy,” I mused, the memories of our whirlwind romance flooding my mind.

Imogen rested a hand on her growing stomach. “Tell me about it. I’m about to pop a baby out with a hot biker in four months.”

I grinned, excited at the prospect of becoming an aunt. “I can’t wait to meet the little one.”
