“Haven’t seen you since last night. Early last night.”

“Yeah, I kinda?—”

“You hook up?” Alex asks, cracking a smile.

I tighten my grip on the doorknob. “Hey, you know me,” I quip.

He lowers his voice as he glances over my shoulder. “She here now?”

“Uh…”

Fuck. Why’d I have to brag like that?

His eyes shine for gossip. “Is it Jacinda?”

Panic pinches my chest even sharper. I fight to keep a straight face, their identical gazes burning holes through me now.

“Yeah,” I lie with a laugh. “You caught us. It’s Jacinda.”

Better than the truth.

“It is?” Ben asks.

“Yup. So, if you guys don’t mind giving us a?—”

“But I saw her with Emerson last night.”

Shit.

“You did?” Alex and I both ask together.

“Yeah, they were all over each other,” Ben says. “And I definitely saw them leave the party together.”

“No,” I say, swallowing hard. “No, you didn’t. She left with me because she’s… here.”

Alex squints, rightfully suspicious. “Who you got in there, man?” he asks.

“No one,” I answer.

They look at each other.

“Okay, I lied,” I blurt. “I don’t have anyone in here. I just wanted to look cool and?—”

Alex nudges the door hard with his foot, forcing it open before I can react. I step back as the two of them shove forward and enter the room.

“See?” I say as they look around. “Just me.”

“Just you and…” Alex bends over and?—

Oh, shit.

SHIT.

He picks them up off the floor. They must have slipped out of my jacket pocket last night.

White panties. Yellow bow.

“I can explain those,” I say.
