“Don't be ridiculous. Even if he knows I'm staying with you guys, he doesn’t know where you live.”

“It would be pretty easy for a determined stalker to get that information in about thirty seconds online,” I told her.

“First, you think he’s an arsonist. Now he’s a stalker?” She laughed at the idea. “He never cared that much about me when we were together. Why would he go to all that effort now that we're broke up?”

I didn't have the answer, but the way he kept looking in our direction made me nervous. “Why don't we get out of here?”

“Fine by me,” Ember said. “Let's go home and slip into something more comfortable.”

I blew out a breath and shook my head. I didn’t like the grin on Logan’s face as we followed her to the door and whispered, “Don’t even think about it.”

Ember had her hand on my thigh as I drove towards home. It was making my dick hard, but I thought it would be rude to ask her to remove it. Logan asked from the backseat, “What's that buzzing noise?”

“It's my phone.” Ember said and reached for her purse. “I don't recognize the number. I bet it’s Reggie using someone else's phone since I blocked him.”

Logan motioned for her to hand him the phone. “What do you want?” he growled into the speaker.

“Yes, this is Ember’s phone. Who’s this? Hold on, I'll see if she wants to speak with you.”

He put his hand over the speaker. “Some guy says his name is Danny, says he used to work with you. Should I tell him to get lost?”

“No, I’ll talk to him, otherwise he’ll just call back.” She wrinkled her nose and took the phone back from Logan. “Hi Danny. What can I do for you? He’s a friend. Thank you, but I have a place to stay for now. That is none of your business. What? Dinner? Listen, Danny, you’re a sweet guy, but I’m afraid we have nothing in common and I’ve got a lot going on right now. Finals are coming up, I start a new job on Monday, got to find a place to live. Yeah, I’m glad you understand.”

She hung up the phone and giggled. “He wanted me to let me stay with him and his mom. Can you believe it?”

“You mean the cook from the diner?” Logan asked. “You gave your number to that weirdo?”

“I guess I must have,” she said as we pulled into the driveway.

“God, these shoes are killing me,” Ember moaned as soon as we were in the house. “I haven’t danced that much in a long time.” With her back to us, she bent over and took off the heels. She took much more time than necessary to remove footwear. Her short skirt rode up so that we could see the generous curve of her ass cheeks peeking out from beneath the hem of her red underwear. It was clear she was trying to get our attention and knew exactly the effect her little show was having on us. Logan looked at me, mouthing the word please. I shook my head no.

Finally standing up, Ember turned to face us and ran her fingers through her long brown hair. “I'm not tired yet. Put on some music and let’s dance.” Her eyes narrowed. “Or we could curl up on the couch and watch a movie. Maybe a dirty one.”

It took all of my strength to say no. “I have to be at the firehouse at seven tomorrow morning and you have an essay to finish.”

She stuck out her bottom lip. “Fine, I will just go upstairs to that big empty bed—all by myself.”

Logan gave out a long groan as she sashayed her way up the steps. While he put out fresh food and water for the cat, I checked the windows and doors. Then we went up to our bedroom.

CHAPTER TEN

Ember

Logan and Aiden did not even pause when they passed my door. I had all but begged them to take me when we were in the living room, but neither one had made a move. It was clearly going to be up to me to take the initiative. I shimmed out of my skirt and removed the blouse, then carefully hung both in the closet. After running a brush through my hair and applying a fresh coat of lipstick, I slipped Logan’s shirt over my shoulders.

It was less than five steps to their bedroom, but I was breathing hard with desire when I arrived. The door was cracked open. I paused to calm my racing heart. “Damn it, Logan. We’ve already been over this.” I heard Aiden say, “Ember is off limits. She has been through a lot, and it would be wrong to prey on her vulnerability.”

“But she was clearly—”

“I don’t care. It is our job to keep her safe. I will not let her do something she might regret.”

My blood boiling, I pushed open the door. “Is that what this is all about?” Before either man could speak, I rushed on. “You think I’m some vulnerable little girl who can’t decide for herself what she wants, is that it? That I need you two to protect me?” I let the shirt slip from my shoulders, and asked more softly, “Does this look like the body of a little girl?”

“She has a point, Aiden.”

“Of course I do.” I whispered. My anger faded at the sight of their bare chests visible above the covers. “I understand your concerns, but as touching as they may be, they are misplaced. I know exactly how I feel, what I want, what I need. And none of it has anything to do with obligation or the gratitude I feel for you.

“Tell us what you want, Ember.” Logan’s voice was strong, almost commanding.
