“What are you doing here?”

“You are here.”

“How did you find me?”

Warren held her tighter. Her leg settled between his. There was no way she couldn’t feel how much he wanted her. It didn’t matter. Nothing mattered more than making sure she was safe. Tomorrow he could tell her everything. Tonight he wanted his wife in his arms. He needed her skin on his for his soul to feel at peace. He only hoped she would forgive him after he told her everything. Reasons didn’t count for shit when he hurt her. If she ran, he would follow. He was prepared to chase her for as long as it took. It was probably best to keep that part of the plan to himself for now.

Brooks was stationed outside their door just in case his wife decided to get a head start while he slept. It was torture living without her for the last two weeks. At least when she was at home, he could get a fix to tide him over. He was always gone before she woke. It was the way it had to be, but no more. Warren was done hiding and staying away from her to protect her. He was going to find them anyway. From the looks of the clubhouse, he already did.

“I will always find you. It doesn’t matter where you go,” he said simply. “Go to sleep, my precious Petal. Nothing is coming through that door.”

“Did you hurt Roach?” Rose whispered after they had lain there a while in silence.

“Why does it matter?” He growled.

“He was only trying to keep me safe.”

“Sleep Rose. You are safe with me.”

“But not from you,” she sighed under her breath.

Rose laid there until his breathing evened out and his body relaxed. Slowly, she edged away from him until she was on the other side of the bed. The bed creaked when she stood. Glancing over her shoulder, she saw that Warren hadn’t moved. He was starfished across the bed, and his snores were getting louder. Tip-toeing around the bed, Rose made it to the chair across the room without waking him.

She sat watching him sleep for hours. The sky started to show streaks of light when she stood from the chair to stretch. Her body hurt. The chair looked more comfortable than it was. The options were the chair or the floor. It was a toss-up which hurt less.

She had to figure something out for tonight. Rose rolled her eyes and scoffed softly. As if Warren was going to be in her bed for another night. There was a job somewhere or a client to talk to about a job. He would kiss her on his way out the door. She could stare at the ceiling from that big bed all by herself tonight.

Rose looked longingly at the bathroom. The hot water would work wonders on her stiff muscles. The possibility of being caught in the shower by her husband warred with how much her body wanted the relief hot water offered. Looking at a sleeping Warren and then at the bathroom door, she made the decision. She would chance it. Besides, the clock was running. There was a good chance he would be gone when she opened the bathroom door. She wasn’t sure what hurt more, the knowledge that he could walk away so easily or her back from the chair. That chair needed a trip to the cabin for deception.

“Revenge on a chair. You have lost your damn mind,” she chastised herself quietly as she walked into the bathroom. “You need to sleep for a week minimum.”

Stripping the shirt over her head, Rose stepped into the shower without waiting for it to get warm. The cool water was the shock her head needed to wake up. She let out a heartfelt moan as the water warmed. When the steam rose, she was in heaven.

“Petal,” Warren groaned, stepping in the shower with her.

“What are you doing?” Rose screeched.

Warren didn’t answer. He wasn’t sure what woke him up until he heard the water running. Rose wasn’t in his arms, and her side of the bed was cold. Annoyance surged through him. After watching her on his phone, he finally got the chance to hold her. His beautiful wife left as soon as he let his guard down enough to sleep. It was a bad habit they needed to break. His annoyance melted away when he realized she was trapped. This was his chance. She was alone with nowhere to run. He needed to remind her how good they were together before he had to test those bonds.

“Love you,” he whispered as he wrapped his arms around her. “Missed you so much. It has been too long.”

“I don’t want to fight with you. I’m tired of fighting.”

Rose rested her head on his chest, adsorbing his strength. She almost whimpered when his hands wound through her wet hair.

“Don’t want to fight with you either,” he admitted.

Warren needed to taste her lips. His body craved her. It commanded him to take what was right in front of him. Tilting her head back, he watched the drops of water cling to her beautiful, soft skin. He lowered his head to feed that craving.

“Wait,” Rose placed both hands on his chest and pushed. “Ow.”

“Petal, what’s wrong? Are you hurt? I will kill him. Tell me who hurt you.”

“What? No. No, nothing like that. My hair is caught in your necklace. Since when did you start wearing a necklace?”

“Since I had something important to keep next to my heart.”

Warren worked carefully to separate her hair from the chain around his neck. When she hissed, he had enough. He took the chain in his hands and slowly applied pressure until the links snapped and the lock of her hair fell free. His hand caught the ring before it fell to the shower floor.
