“I know, that’s why I’m here,” Max replied – and ducked as another romance book came flying at his head, thudding against the wall behind him and far too close.

“Your wife told you flat out what she wants and…”

“Hold up!” Max interrupted. “Uh, noooo she didn’t. She has an undefined length of time where we are not going to get ‘ta’ business’…”

“Reese?!” Eileen snapped – pointing at Max – and Reese slapped him on the back of his head.

“OWWW! What the heck, man?”

“It’s not called ‘getting to business’ – it’s called ‘making love,’ and your wife is telling you flat out that she wants romance, she wants emotion, and she wants you to love her – and then you can make love to her.”

“Huh?”

“Oh my gosh,” Eileen muttered, turning to grab another book.

“WAIT! WAIT, PLEASEEEE?” Max begged, holding up his hands and looking at the both of them. “Dumb it down for me because I’m really freaking out. Elana owns my junk now and we haven’t even been married a full twenty-four hours now. She was crying and…”

“I’m sure!”

“And she locked me out of the bedroom…”

“I would, too.”

“Eileen,” Reese sighed heavily, and she rolled her eyes, putting the book back as Max sighed. “You are going to have to fix this – or let her go.”

“I don’t want to,” Max yelped, horrified. “Wh-Why? Why am I going to have to let her go? I love her.”

“You probably should give her a few more clues or come right out and tell her that,” Eileen said in a much calmer voice that caused him to look at her. She looked like she was pitying him now, and that wasn’t helping his ego. “You need to lay out what she means to you on the line, and then follow through. That woman is intelligent, and she can smell a liar a mile away.”

“I’m not lying!”

“You don’t have to convince me – you have to convince her.”

“What am I gonna do?” he whispered, his mind racing. He needed to do something romantic, show her he cared, spill his guts, and make it authentic. She mentioned fairy tales and trust, and it hit him.

He looked at Eileen and Reese – who looked at each other in fear.

“What are you thinking?”

“I think I know how I’m gonna get her to trust me and talk to me.”

“What are you doing?”

“I need some help…”

“Mental?” Eileen volunteered with a bright smile, causing Reese to choke as he laughed.

“Har. Har. Har. Do you still have that dumb karaoke thingie-bopper at the station?”

“The microphone and player – yes. I locked it away from Lance and Austin so I don’t have to listen to their caterwauling.”

“Welp, I need to borrow it so I can do a little caterwauling myself as I romance my girl,” Max grinned. “And let’s stop by the hardware store.”

“Why?”

“Chains.”

“Excuse me?”
