“I’ll try,” Victoria muttered.

“Great! There are a couple of new dating apps out that I think might be just what you’re looking for. I’ll send you some links.”

“Thanks,” Victoria said sourly. She supposed that she wasn’t going to be able to get out of this. Best to go on the stupid date to keep Jillian happy. She wouldn’t continue the relationship past the first date. She had more important things to worry about.

Alexa

Alexa Rossi’s phone pinged. She bit back a groan. She knew that dreaded sound. It was the sound of one of the various dating apps she had downloaded.

She very nearly deleted the notification without looking at it, but she couldn’t quite bring herself to do it. As discouraged as she was with the whole process, she desperately wanted to find what she had come to the apps looking for in the first place.

Alexa’s job as CEO of her family business, the Rossi Corporation, fulfilled her, but work wasn’t everything. She knew that. She was close with most of her large family, and she was well aware of the value of human connection.

She wanted more than family, though. She wanted a partner, someone who she could go through life with side by side. Someone who she could rely on and love in ways that she couldn’t love her family.

She was just so sick of trying. She worried that there was something wrong with her. So many failed dates… What if growing up surrounded so closely by her family had left her unable to forge connections with anyone else?

Alexa thought of what Daniella would say. Though she was close to most of her family, she had always felt the greatest connection with her youngest sister.

Daniella would shake her head and pat Alexa on the cheek. You’re not broken, silly. You just haven’t found the person who fits your wacky brain perfectly just yet.

Alexa was beginning to suspect such a person didn’t exist.

However, she hadn’t yet given up her foolish hope, so she sighed in resignation and opened the app.

She expected a “Hi” or “You’re cute” or any of the other generic messages that you usually got on these dating apps.

Instead, she found herself staring at a well-written paragraph.

Hi Alexa

Your picture caught my eye, and I took a look at your profile. I think we might be a good match. I’m also in the corporate world, and I’m looking to find someone who understands the pressures of that life and won’t hold it against me.

I see that you like cooking – perhaps you could teach me sometime. I’m terrible.

Take a look at my profile and let me know if you’re interested.

Victoria

Well, that was certainly off to a much better start than most of the exchanges Alexa had had here. Alexa clicked on Victoria’s profile and had to hold back a gasp. Victoria wasbeautiful. Her long brown hair was wavy, full of volume and tasteful highlights. Her eyes matched her hair color perfectly, and her thin lips were completely in balance with her perfectly straight nose.

She was quite a bit older than Alexa, but Alexa didn’t care about that. Age wasn’t nearly as important as potential connection, and Victoria was off to a good start. What were the chances that Alexa would get a message from someone who was both stunningandwilling to put in the effort to write a proper introduction message?

She scrolled through several photos, some of which revealed Victoria’s slim frame and delicate breasts, and one that showed her long, toned legs to great advantage.

Alexa looked through what Victoria had written on her profile. They weren’t given many characters to write a short summary of themselves, but Victoria had taken full advantage of the space, cramming everything she could about herself into a short paragraph.

She was a lover of art and literature, just like Alexa. Even more importantly, she was devoted to her job, just like Alexa was. She liked Italian food, another bonus.

Okay, this woman was definitely getting a return message.

She read through Victoria’s message again before responding.

Hi Victoria,

Thanks for your message. I’ve looked at your profile and I agree that we may be a good match.
