This whole situation was getting stranger by the minute.

Of course, I had no intention of letting Sasuke kill Harris. I was not going to be an accomplice to murder, even if Harris was stalking me like a creep. I wasn't a monster.

For now, I had to play along, even if that meant going to Wal-Mart with a guy who'd kidnapped me and left me tied to a chair all night.

Memories of the rope against my skin made me tingle between my legs in ways I hadn't felt in what seemed like forever. Every time I glanced at Sasuke, I wondered what kind of lover he would be. Sweet and gentle or demanding and rough? Likely the latter.

We went to the store to buy, as he called it, "supplies." Mostly new plain clothes, rope, tape, and a manner of other little things that he intended to use in order to complete his mission. He was like a kid in a candy store - way too excited about the prospect of killing my sister's ex-boyfriend.

I marked that as another reason to play along with him. If he was this eager to kill, I was sure he wouldn't hesitate to slit my throat after he was done with Harris.

"I'm starving," Sasuke said as he loaded the bags into the back of his rental car.

I remembered being tied up in the back seat. Now I got to sit up front with him like I was his friend, not his captive.

"Me too," I said, trying to ignore the thirst and hunger pangs. I hadn't had anything to eat or drink except that coffee since lunchtime yesterday.

Sasuke drove us to a diner nearby, following the GPS on his phone. It was an old iPhone, probably a burner that he'd magically lose after his job was done.

Job?

Killing people.

I shuddered, knowing that there was no way in hell that Harris was his first kill. I glanced over at him as he drove. He seemed so nonchalant, like he was just driving around and chatting with a buddy rather than planning a brutal murder.

My mind flew around in circles at the bizarre situation of sitting across from the table with my captor. No one would have given us a second glance. There was no reason for anyone to think I was in danger.

"So, how long have you lived around here?" He asked as we sat down at a booth.

"My whole life," I answered shortly. Shouldn't he know that? Or was he now second-guessing all of his intel?

"Nice city," he remarked as he flipped open the menu.

"Sure," I replied drily. "Why are you trying to make conversation with me?"

Sasuke paused and looked at me for a moment. His eyes held a strange intensity, a depth that I couldn't comprehend. It unnerved me the way he stared directly into my soul, analyzing me as if he were deciding whether or not to pull the trigger.

"I learned English mostly from watching American movies," he said, suddenly shifting the mood again. "It's fun to practice."

Fun?

That was not a word I'd use for anything that'd happened to me in the past twenty-four hours.

The waitress came up to us, spinning her pen between her fingers. She was an older lady with glasses that hung around a chain on her neck. "Hello, what can I get you today?"

"I'll take the steak. Medium-rare," Sasuke said.

"Um, the all-day breakfast special," I said.

The waitress jotted down our orders, refilled our coffees, and walked back to the kitchen, singing along with the radio as she went.

"So, you're paying, right?" I asked. I hadn't seen my purse, wallet, or phone since he'd abducted me right off the sidewalk.

"My treat," he said with a chuckle. "I suppose it's the least I could do."
